They're... hatching....... they're... going to take over the world...!!!! Oh wait... no.. they're just cute giant banded-pill-millipedes being derpy going about their day. Haven't seen these guys in ages but since Thailand has been storming a ton oddly.. they've decided to come out from underground a month early and i've been seeing them and the candy cane species pop up in my enclosures rummaging for food.
I’m going through Malaysia withdrawal. I fell for the incredible varied plants some with massive leaves*! Scroll to see amazing pill millipedes that resemble humongous Rolly Polly & GIANT millipedes. They make my little one appear even more tiny 😆
*can anyone please ID this leaf? 🙏

Pill millipedes are capable of rolling into perfect balls when disturbed.#pillmillipedes
found in an array of terrestrial habitats from tropical rainforests. They can also defend themselves with a chemical defence. To humans, the smell is similar to almonds, but to small creatures it is extremely toxic as it contains the chemical cyanide.please follow me at @girish_phalake

Another calming video for (i hope) most of you 😅one of my mini-almost self-sustaining ecosystems. Complete with Thai tiger millipedes, Thai black gaints, Thai rainbows, dragon millipede species, green pill millipedes, leaf roaches, land snails, microfauna -isopods and springtails- all described species are in the tags below this caption. You will rarely see the other inhabitants unless you open the lid late at night while they're all scavenging on the surface. What these animals do is mostly just clean. Feed off decaying/fresh matter. Some species have specific diets like the pill millipedes. Only able to feed on this native moss i grow for them, the yellow land snails only feed on lichen if they are to survive and thrive. Giant millipedes and the common land snails will eat almost anything, which is why i provide slice of banana for them. To set up a habitat like this.. rainforest type, you're going to need a tank/bin that keeps in humidity well, air holes flowing in and out through the sides and keep the top blocked, a light that shines in every now and then during the day, kept in a cool area. The isopods, springtails and just many of these inhabitants are already amazing cleaners already. Like aquariums, they're a really fun thing to look at while to clear your head or improve your mood. For me at least.
Green Thai giant pill millipedes, i spotted one baby in their enclosure this evening, above ground. So there must be a lot more since i've seen one. Such an exciting day, the reason most of these species have never lasted in captivity out of state is because of many factors, being: the high altitude while on the plane screws up their respiratory system. Their extremely specific diet of only native moss, fungi that grows in the rainforests where they are abundant. Their longest period without having to eat is about 3 months, that's when most pill millipede species shipped out die anyway. No food, stress from no food and shipping. So this is great news for me to be able to accomplish this 🔥might feel lame to a ton of people though 😂 but hey, amazing things can come in small packages. These are not a described species. Cheers everyone. Cyber drinks all around, on me! Also sorry about a slightly shaky video, my hands were shaky out of joy and my wrist is almost broken on the videoing hand 😅
Tiny interesting creatures come out from the earth at dusk to scavenge about. A wondrous thing happened today.. i found a baby Thai green pill millipede baby in this enclosure... to my knowledge no one has ever bred them before- lack of proper diet and being imported usually prevents that ability. They're not even a described species 😅 but woop woop to me! Will post about them soon.
Added some Thai rainbow millipedes to my mini ecosystem. When that millipede fell over i died inside😂 and those are pill millipedes, not pill bugs, different family of animals that evolved similar defensive traits.
This mini ecosystem i created. The second best thing to a marine tank (which im dying to have one day😭) for watching. Always makes me smile, they're all so cute. The animals shown are: brown giant pill millipedes, not pillbugs. Black beaded dragon millipede (it's undescribed so i just gave it a name suiting it), green leaf katydid, decaying leaf katydid, leaf roach species. Small gold roach species i forgot the name to😅
The end 😂 god these PILL MILLEPEDES!!! are so cute. Love.. PILL MILLIPEDES.. Which happen to just evolve a same defense mechanism as rollie pollies...
Ugh is this a giant walking toffee or something? Hyleoglomeris albicollis. Not isopods. Not rollie pollies -.- not even closely related.
Very weird song to come up when i'm taking this vid... Rare candy pill millipedes! Not rollie pollies and not even closely related :)
