Want to learn how to pistol squat??? Me too lol. I’m not too good at this myself! I definitely have some discrepancies when it comes to my hips, ROM, and end range stability (specifically my spine). However...that’s not gonna stop me from working on it 💪🏾💪🏾 If you are wanting to work on your pistol squat, first understand that it is not an essential movement. Is it vital to your quest for strong legs? No! Is it the best variation or “go to” for squats? Absolutely not! But it’s cool 😎 and it does require good flexibility, balance, and strength to complete. Not only that, but it’s a unilateral movement (single leg). So you work on a bad ass squat and train the stability in your hips also.
You’ve probably figured it out, but I’m an advocate of core strength also. This exercise doesn’t require advanced level core control, but using the core of your body properly can help to excel your pistol squat!
Video one is a pistol squat using a very high box to squat down to. The key is to try and allow for some dorsiflexion instead of just sitting you butt back as far as you can! From there, practice makes perfect!!! Now we work on moving down and down and down! The rest is history :) P.S. my quads were starting to tighten up by the last video lol!
Peace, love, and goodnight everyone!#
