When we were at the mall, we stopped into the theatre to watch “Instant Family”…it was hilarious 😂 haha but the actual theatre was amazing…I have never experienced anything like it before…they had individual leather recliners, mainly 2 seats to a row…the theatre was also pretty small so it was a way better experience not being in a packed theatre. Of course, I didn’t use this feature but they had a waiter/waitress service that you could order food/drinks prior to going into the theatre and have it delivered to your seat whenever you requested haha so fancy! 🙃I would love to have something like this back home in Newfoundland 🇨🇦 ! But the best part of the experience for me is that I brought my own snacks (apples🍎 & grapes 🍇) and it was the 1st time in years that I have gone to a movie theatre without indulging in any movie theatre food and I honestly didn’t feel the urge to either! I was so proud 🙌 of myself! Since arriving in Australia and starting my new health journey, I have been following the @medicalmedium Guidelines combined with a 🌱Plant Based Diet. This past Saturday we went to the Green Hills Shopping Centre in East Maitland NSW, which was just over an hour’s drive away from Muswellbrook. It was Karlie’s friend Amanda’s birthday🥳 and we thought it would be nice to take a little day trip to help her celebrate. We ended up going for lunch at a restaurant in the mall…fortunately the restaurant did have some 🌱Plant Based & Gluten Free options but unfortunately these options did not fit within Medical Medium’s Guidelines and included some of the “no foods” 😞 I ended up going with a Vegan Burger with a side of Gluten Free Fries…honestly I was disappointed with my burger 🍔 😡it was ok but not remotely comparable to the Veggie Grillable Burgers we had the night before…our burgers are jam-packed with flavor whereas the restaurant’s weren’t haha The fries were good but I’m sure were cooked in Canola Oil…honestly the fries I have made at home sticking within MM guidelines are always better 😋 A couple of things I noticed after eating lunch was that I was hungry again within about an hour and 1/2 and wasn’t feeling the greatest 🤢 for the rest of the day. Generally, with this new lifestyle I have been feeling pretty awesome 😎 all the time and only get hungry every 3-4 hours…obviously there was ingredients in my meal that caused the complete opposite! What was your go-to comfort meal as a kid? Mine was a bowl of mashed potatoes stacked with sauerkraut, apple sauce, and pork. I stopped eating meat at age 11, but before that I’d have that dish alllll the time through the winters in Iowa. My California winter version is nightshade free and vegan: roasted kale, baked apple, onion, and kabocha with @sonomabrinery ’s kraut, and a little nutritional yeast. From a very young age, I was no stranger to the power of movement and a plant-based lifestyle.  I was born and raised in support of a vegetarian lifestyle.  Thanks to my parents, kale was cool in our household back in the 80s and exercise was practically ingrained in my well-being. . The foundations were there, but like the majority of young women, I fell susceptible to the pressures of societal and diet culture, which began my long and extensive journey towards achieving physical “perfection” and optimal health. . As the years progressed, my level of self-care began to diminish.  I spent several years working as a Scientist in the lab, characterizing all stages of oncology, immunology, and cellular based therapeutic programs, working long hours, suffering from sleep deprivation, stressed out and constantly getting sick.  I was inhaling toxic chemicals and working with category-4 compounds. . Headaches persisted as a normal occurrence in my day-to-day well-being.  And my digestion?  Let's just say that it resulted in visiting various specialists and undergoing multiple testing procedures to figure out what exactly was going on with my gut, only to be sent home with a CVS prescription for digestive enzymes. . I realized that my high levels of stress, insufficient sleep patterns, long working hours and poor nutrition were working against my health.  Yeah, I was the girl eating my veggies at lunch everyday and fitting in my 6 am barre classes, but I had failed to look at the bigger picture. . I utilized my background in the sciences to study researched based publications on nutrition and disease, working to further my understanding on the mechanics of the body and on how to optimize my health for a better well-being. . And I amplified my personal experience of living a plant-based lifestyle and became a yoga  instructor in the process. . Over the years, my health has transformed! I still have the occasional upsets, but being in tune with my body has helped me to moderate those challenges as they come. . So tell me, what is your biggest challenge when it comes to your health? It was a celebration and I'm a decent baker...I think.🤔 I have eaten a fully plant-based, low fat diet for over 14 years with great results. DO I NEED TO EAT PROTEIN POWDER TO GET FIT? ✨ the answer is easier than you‘d think... no, you don‘t need to take protein powder to get fit BUT it sure as hell makes your journey a lot easier... let me explain👇🏽 ✨ PROTEIN is one of the three macronutrients (next to carbs and fats, out of which we need a certain amount of ALL to function properly) that can be found in all foods. it is responsible for a lot of things including tissue repair, which is the main reason why “fitness people“ are taking it in higher amounts than others. whenever we work out we “damage” our muscles, so our bodies need protein to make reparations and get stronger for future stress. ✨ there is quite some debate on the recommended intake between coaches, nutritionists, and athletes. most of the time, for muscle building, the rule of thumb is to have 0.8-1 times your body weight in either lbs or kg (depends on the approach) grams per day. however, sometimes this level can get a lot higher or lower according to your goals and current metabolic state. as an example, i had short periods of time when i was on 300g of protein in a muscle building phase, and i at other times i had to go below 120g 🤷🏽‍♀️ ✨ i believe that we should try our best to consume most of our nutrients from while foods, so i try my best not to use too much protein powder. i’d rather have egg whites, yoghurt or broccoli than whey or the @bulkpowders_uk vegan blend. however, at times when my protein intake is high, i want to have something to drink, or i crave something sweet, i do find it convenient to have protein shakes at hand. protein powders are nutritional SUPPLEMENTS, meaning that they should be supplemented into an already healthy diet as an extra nutrient source, NOT consumed as a main food source 🍓 ✨ so the final answer is... NO, you don’t need to eat protein powder to get fit, but it definitely helps a lot with convenience when your protein intake is high. try to eat most of your protein from natural and whole food sources, and if you need a bit of a boost, grab a protein bar or drink a shake 😉 ✨ how much protein powder do you eat in a day?
Good evening!⠀ Tonight, I thought I'd try the Plant Kitchen sweet potato falafels. Just bake for 8-10 mins and serve with a cashew nut and cannelini bean drizzle. They are mildly spiced with chilli, ginger, coriander and paprika and are tasty and fragrant. The accompanying dip is a creamy bonus. I prefer a plumper falafel tbh, but that's probably just me being greedy!⠀ Have you tried other items from this range? Whenever I don’t feel too well, I like to make vegetable soup. I put this stuff on my oatmeal every morning. GREAT source of potassium, iron, and calcium. Just this! Add this to all the other wonderful plant-based foods you can eat and you're good!! My baby had her 6-month follow-up with her pediatrician this morning and she's growing and developing wonderfully! My little vegan baby is killing it. 😊🌱💪 She can thrive on the thousands and thousands of plants we have at our disposal!
Ingredients: 300g canned spinach puree, 300g fresh spinach, 500g potatoes, 40g onions, 250ml Plant milk, 2tsp sea salt, 10g Nutritional Yeast - 1tsp each: Garlic Powder, coriander powder, garam masala, fenugreek powder, cumin powder, - Directions: 1. Rinse fresh spinach & blend afterwards. Add water for preferred smoothness/consistency approaching pureed form 2. Prepare/mix all the seasonings on a large plate. 3. Cut the potatoes and preboil them 4. Add all the components, including canned spinach puree into a pan and stir afterwards 5. Consistently add water, instead of oil, but not too much to preserve its puree goodness. 6.
