Summer in Australia is my favourite thing ever and I'm so excited for itttt. Morning smoothie bowls with all the summer fruit to kick off the day. Swims, sun, warmth. Everything smells heavy with flowers and something else earthy that I can't quite put my finger on. The smell of the hot road during a sudden thunderstorm. Biting into fresh mangoes and the juice dripping down my arms. The sound of cicadas in the late afternoon. I've always revelled in the beauty of this time of year, of my home, but now even more so after spending so long away and especially after living in New York, so far removed from that nature. Waking up with bird song. A constant soundtrack of leaves swaying and crickets chirping. Jasmine in the air. The moment you submerge into the ocean. What's summer for you?? How many reps did I do? No idea - I’m just training to and past failure. You just gotta get in that zone. I like to fail on hard exercises and gradually make the exercises easier through the workout but still go to failure. I had a stupid pump today and im loving this new routine I wrote up. It’s a 6 day program which is the only bad thing about it, I haven’t worked out 6x a week in a few months while focusing on my strength. BENEFITS OF PULL UPS AND HOW TO DO THEM A turning point with training is when you understand exactly what muscle groups are being worked with each movement, so I’m going to start breaking down some of these. If I could only choose from 5 exercises to do, this would me one of them. (With numero uno being the deadlift) Pull ups are a Compound Exercise meaning they work multiple muscle groups at once. Including your traps, lats, biceps, triceps, forearms, wrists, shoulders, core and your grip strength. This is a major plus if you’re someone who wants to workout, but is short on time. It’s also one of the most convenient exercises because all you need is a bar. You can do them at home with the portable bars (which I HIGHLY RECOMMEND) if you want to get good at doing them. Pull Ups have tons of variations to activate certain muscle groups. An example are Chin ups, which places more activation on your biceps. The variation I’m doing with my knees up activates the core more, and requires more stabilization. If you aren’t able to do them yet, you can start with assisted pull ups with bands, which you tie to the bar and place your feet in, and it serves as a “Spotter” with your reps. I prefer isometric pull ups, jumping up on the bar and slowly lowering yourself down. The key is in resisting on the way down. (Visualize yourself hanging off a cliff and trying not to fall, THAT type of resistance lol) If you have the portable bar at home, practice them multiple times per day, every time you walk through rooms, just hit a set of 3-5 reps. Or whatever you can do, Frequency is KEY. Let me know if you like these post and I’ll make more. It is packed with nutrition because a serving of peanut butter has 3 mg of the powerful antioxidant vitamin E, 49 mg of bone-building magnesium, 208 mg of muscle-friendly potassium, and 0.17 mg of immunity-boosting vitamin B6. ... Peanut butter is also high with monounsatu-rated fat, which is good for the heart. Luckily I have black bean chilli goji burgers enriched in chia seeds served on avocado mash base and salad. Nomnom! ⠀ .⠀ Why eat black beans?⠀ Black beans are a great source of plant based protein. 1 cup serving (174g) delivers a whopping 15g of protein and 15g of fibre, plus plenty of minerals.⠀ .⠀ Studies show that blackbeans reduce inflammation, help protect against heart disease, stabilises blood sugar levels and protects against some cancers, esp. colon cancer.⠀ ⠀ Here comes the geeky bit: (credit to https://buff.ly/2Ta99qm)⠀ A one-cup serving of cooked black beans provides:⠀ 227 calories⠀ 15 grams protein⠀ 15 grams fiber⠀ 0 fat⠀ And lots of minerals⠀ .⠀ To make the burgers simply blend together: shape into patties and pan fry or bake the following.
