#nationalgeographic#natgeo#planetorplastic#planet#plastic#plastik
I started studying plastic and now I’m realizing our planet is dependent on it and we are running out of room to keep it. These items are wreaking havoc on our oceans and therefore our food chain and precious wildlife. Plastic is swirling around, trashing uninhabited islands and breaking up into microscopic pieces. We can rethink the way we use “disposables” and when we do it together we will make great change
All of that trash in the photo was picked up today in my neighborhood as I walked my dog 😱🐶
This was clicked in a small village where there is no waste collection system in place (even till date). Few people burn waste.. some people throw it on the beach assuming that it’s not their headache. And a few of them are trying to make some aesthetic sense out of it. Can plastics look good on trees ? Can nature and synthesized chemical products have a peaceful co-living ?
Nah !!! Not at all!
In fact waste collected from cities too are just thrown around to create landfills in the outskirts. So unless we want chains and heaps of plastic dangling on everything nature and human , stop 🛑 adding to plastic waste as far as possible.
Little things I am doing : 1. Carry my own metal bottle of water everywhere.
2. Carry cotton shopping bags and lunch bags.
3. Carry my own containers for parcels and to places that serve food in plastic (like icecream, kulfi shops, fast food etc) as far as possible.
4. Bamboo spoon and fork in my wallet ready to counter any plastic spoons given for street food.
5. Bamboo toothbrush (recent addition). .
Let’s start small...Say no to one time use plastics! #saynotoplastic#changestartswithme
I urge each of you (who are yet to start this journey) to make small lifestyle changes to avoid plastic use. #babysteps
Those of you who are already living a less-plastic lifestyle, please do comment and add in your valuable suggestions! What do you do to reduce plastic waste ?
Did you know ??? Americans generate 10.5 million tons of PLASTIC waste a year but recycle only 1 or 2 % of it. An estimated 14 billion pounds of trash-most of it plastic -is dumped in the world's oceans every year.
Over 1 million seabirds and 100,000 sea mammals are killed by pollution every year.
HOW CAN WE STOP POLLUTION IN THE OCEAN ?
1 .Reduce Your Use of Single-Use Plastics 🔻Try to avoid products with excessive packaging and bring a reusable bag to the grocery store.
( Please , say NO to plastic bags ) 🔻 Never buy single use plastic water bottles ( working on it 😔 ) 🔻 Use To-go-ware over plastic forks, spoons, or straws 🔻 Bring your own coffee mug 😔
2 . Recycle
This should go without saying, but when you use single-use (and other) plastics that can be recycled, always be sure to recycle them. This helps keep them out of the ocean and reduces the amount of “new” plastic in circulation.
3 . Spread the Word
Stay informed on issues related to plastic pollution and help make others aware of the problem. Tell your friends and family about how they can be part of the solution.
These steps, as well as many others, are things we all can do to help reduce plastic pollution ♥️ Inspired by @alenasable ‘s last podcast episode with @eatingwithmax .

Plastic debris scatter the beach at the popular surf spot, “Supertubos” in Portugal. This spot is known for super fun surf but like most beaches it is not known to be a waiting room for trash. Our plastic travels easily across the oceans breaking up into edible pieces for sea life and both blankets the under sea landscape and our shore line. It comes from us. When do you think plastic will out number fish? Maybe 30 years. Maybe never if we can do something about it. It starts with awareness. #beach#environment#cleaneating#nature#plastic
