Being able to get your strength work to have carry over to your sport/martial art is key. Here is how we like to Apia h it at @physicalculturecollective
Strength! There isn’t a single life situation where being strong is not an advantage. Strength training help to align, support, and stabilize the joints, active muscle helps your metabolism and burns fat, and certain modalities not only do that but they also help to increase your athleticism.
Bi-lateral work will get you strong, no doubt, but uni-lateral (single sided) strength training will do that and more. In putting your left and right sides out on there own you can start to see any imbalances that your weaker/non dominant side would usually be hidden in bilateral work.
You may not be able to move as much weight but if you put that to the side and allow yourself a chance to grow with this concept you will find the strength gains to be even more awesome and that they will have more carry over into your sports and martial arts training.
