Watched a video recently of someone opening up some first edition Neo Genesis packs. Reminded me of just how awesome this set was.
Is anyone else playing Rumble Rush? Just downloaded the apk yesterday and I'm hooked. It's basically a tap game evolved, but my goodness it's addictive.

A little tilt to get the lighting just right...
Here's a throwback: Lurantis from SM Base! Used to be my favourite deck to run, I thought it was just so good!
(SWIPE LEFT) Looking back at @mitsuhiro_arita
Umbreon artworks... and I noticed something. Am I overthinking things, or is that the same Umbreon stalking the same rooftops, with the bell tower in the background? Looks like he was waiting for a friend!

The low-key cult heroes of Team Up, quietly going about their business while Pikarom was busy being flashy. Now a dead card because Reshiram is a thing. Farewell, you will be missed.
First time participated Pokemon TCG Regionals. Disappointment not at my performance, but the organizers of this huge event. With over 360 participants, event was delayed 6hrs and refreshments were lacking greatly. Hope they do better next year. Pokemon VGC Regionals was much better organized the previous years.
I guess they need to hire a project manager 🤭

It took way too long to get this guy into my collection. But I finally got it in Japan! Only 2 more to go before I complete Ultra Shiny - Eevee and Lucario-GX. Saw some for decent prices, but I decided to wait until after rotation when Eevee drops out forever lol
The second of 3 cards leaked today is Deospeon? Espoxys? We'll come up with a nickname later. Looks like it's Espeon GX 2.0. 10+30 damage for each Psychic pokemon on your bench for basic attack. GX attack places 10 damage counters on your opponents pokemon in any way you like, or 20 if you have 3 extra energy in addition to cost. It's... meh. I'm not a fan because it's neither a good enough attacker in Malamar, and too difficult to power up in a spread deck. 260hp really hurts too, Reshizard one-shots this with a choice band.
Mewmew Tag Team has leaked! And it's absolutely RIDICULOUS!!! Its ability allows you to use ANY attack of your GX and EX pokemon on your bench or discard pile, and its GX attack does a straight 200 and allows you to heal ALL DAMAGE from all your pokemon if you have 1 more energy than the cost. Guys, this card is beyond broken. It's freaking OP.
(DETECTIVE PIKACHU REVIEW 2/2 - Part 1 in previous post) The Pokemon themselves are magnificently realised. For all the criticism their designs got pre-movie release (that I must admit I was a part of), they look absolutely incredible here. They did a lot of fan favourites justice – I can fully accept that if Charizard, Greninja or Mewtwo were real life creatures, this would be exactly what they’d look like. And when this movie goes for cute, dear Lord, they nail cute. An entire row of girls sat behind me during my screening, and they were SQUEALING when Bulbasaur first appeared. My girlfriend wrung my arm so hard it hurt and in her own words, “couldn’t handle it”. Which brings us to the star and titular character of the show – Detective Pikachu. For the most part, Ryan Reynolds is a joy in his fast-talking, sarcastic, caffeine-fueled role. The chemistry between him and the human protagonist is great, and led to some genuine laugh-out-loud moments. My only gripe is that it verged on overkill, and certain moments would have been better served in silence rather than have Pikachu yammering extra lines that while charming, were never actually funny.
I also have to give this movie credit for 2 reveals that genuinely got me, and that’s all I will say on the matter.
All in all, Detective Pikachu delivers on what it sets out to do. It’s fun, fast and linear – much like a Pikachu – and if you’re Pokemon fan, you’ve probably already seen it or have tickets for opening weekend. That’s sort of my point; fans will watch this, no matter the reviews. And while I enjoyed the film, it never came close to blowing me away. It’s a great proof of concept rather than a great movie, and I’m looking forward to see what they’ll be doing next.
(DETECTIVE PIKACHU REVIEW 1/2) Nobody asked, but here are my spoiler-free thoughts (unless you consider trailers spoilers) on Detective Pikachu! As an obvious Pokemon fan (enough to build an entire Instagram page dedicated to the cards), this will come as no surprise – I really enjoyed this film. However, my positivity does come with caveats, as I feel that judged on its own merits, it’s very limited as a standalone movie; but as a manifestation of a multi-billion dollar behemoth franchise on the big screen, it gets nearly everything right.
Let’s move past the more disappointing things before we get to the good stuff. First of all, the plot is paper thin. In fact, it’s really, REALLY dumb. Any attempt to analyse it will simply result in as much confusion as a Psyduck or the final Game of Thrones season. Secondly, the way the film handles exposition feels a bit lazy. For a movie about a detective rodent, very little actual investigating goes on – everything seems to fall into place through coincidence, or is relayed by long flashback sequences told through movie-convenient technology. As for the human characters, they are… fine, in a borderline irritating Saturday morning TV sort of way. There were some surprisingly emotional moments in here, but for the most part the humans are simply plot devices for action set pieces and story beats.
But screw all that noise – who cares about the plot and humans, we’re here for the POKEMON! And here is where, I’m delighted to say, the movie excels. It understands the sense of wonder these creatures bring, and it fully manages to capture the feeling of living in a world inhabited by them. It doesn’t pander to the audience either – save for a short video sequence explaining the city this film takes place in, there’s very little introduction to this world. The movie understands that you’re probably already a fan, and you don’t need to be handheld through the basics. This frees it up to include a BILLION easter eggs that everyone from the most casual to hardcore of fans will appreciate. Yes, a binder of Pokemon cards makes it into the movie, and I geeked out HARD. (CONT. IN NEXT POST)
Shhh. The movie is starting!
Today I learned that Shiny Rayquaza has denim for skin.
I can't be the only one super happy that the nickname for this card is Mukmuk, right?
Hot little Mailday today! Got my third Sharizard (get it?) in, and this is definitely the cheapest I've been able to score one yet! Absolute steal!
A Pokemon vending machine that sells plushies. Because why not?
Away on a weekend company retreat, and didn't have time to snap a new card pic - so here's some of the world's most adorable socks!
I wasn't farsighted enough to pick up the 2016 Battlefesta Pikachu when it came out and probably never will now, but I'll take what I can get!
Finally about to catch Endgame, which released when I was in Japan! Let's goooooo!
Thus ends another wonderful trip to Japan! Singles are no longer what they used to be, so I'm glad I got in the previous trips before the craze swallowed everything up. On the bright side, I got to direct more of my attention outside card shops and take in more of the outdoors (and so much food)! Till next time, Kyoto/Osaka!
I see lots of people falling on either side of the divide for this card, so where do you stand? UGLY or ADORABLE?
With all the hype the birds have gotten, I think these 2 dudes are pretty overlooked! Rowlet (and Decidueye) has low-key become one of my favourite pokemon ever, so to have it featured on a pretty dope card is awesome.
I did a thing today. Sold the Gold DCEs I pulled personally years ago, along with some other cards, and it was a bittersweet experience. But with DCE leaving the format in the foreseeable future, I think I made the right decision to cash in now... still hurt to let my babies go though. Made about 60,000¥ ($600) from those bad boys alone. It was an adventure figuring out how sell these cards to shops, since I've always been a buyer. Farewell my friends, till we meet again (after rotation, maybe?)
Pulls from my Golden Week Mystery Packs on the top row, and some new purchases on the bottom. All in all, money well wasted. I made my first sale to a shop as well! Sold my full art Guzma for 7000 yen (roughly $70)! Maybe I should stop complaining about full art trainer pulls...
Finally, FINALLY got to meet the superawesomesauce @glitternerdity
in person for a day filled with Pokenerdity! The shopping was chaotic, the lattes tasty, the pulls horrifying (as per tradition on this account) and the company was second to none. I'm so glad we got to hang out so far away from home - an experience that really might be once in a lifetime. A trip highlight!
Goddamn GORGEOUS. Just... ridiculously stunning.
The beauty of the GXes in this box make up for the terrible SR I pulled (and I got 5 in total, more than the regular 4)! Still got a box to go, let's hope for better luck!
Woof. Not the best of pulls, but I'll take it.
It's a cold, rainy night in Osaka... so let's bust open a Sky Legends box for fun! Don't worry @glitternerdity
, I still have one more to battle with.
(Swipe left) Close-ups of my Pokemon Center haul. Boxes, deck cases, sleeves... I grabbed them all.
You are limited to 2 of any product, and 5 boxes of each Sky Legends and Detective Pikachu. The cards weren't displayed on the shelves, you had to buy them at the counter. Before entering, they gave you a ticket with a time slot and stamped you with a UV chop, so you can't requeue.
I wanted to record my experience at the Pokemon Center on launch day of Sky Legends and Detective Pikachu. Maybe do a nice chill live stream. Fat chance. Utter chaos and frenzy. Wouldn't be surprised if everything sold out Day 1. This pic was taken at 10am btw - when the doors opened.
I know I said card selection was lacking at the stores here, but I couldn't leave Kyoto empty handed could I? Decided to grab some "souvenirs" on my last full day here - some family deck GXes which I managed to score for 100yen each, and an Ultra Shiny I was missing for the collection!
Rocking your world. I've actually managed to hit a few singles shops in Kyoto but... nothing good. In fact, I haven't bought a single card yet 😱. Here's hoping Osaka will be better!
This card hits so many nostalgia points it hurts. All hail the Pokemon Master who started it all.
Sights of Pokemon Center Kyoto part 2, the part where I touch a Pikachu
Bought 3 packs of GG End for fun, but ended up getting some really nice pulls. Holy shit, the best GX in the set. And lowkey a big fan of that Chandelure too.
