T R A N S F O R M A T I O N T u e s d a y- - My story is just like anyone else's that has ever struggled with weightloss...- my pics current, 2017, 2016, 2015. - - I thought I was happy... but yet, I was always on the verge of complete meltdown. I hated to shop, but hated taking pictures even more.... I was a t o t a l mess. - - I started working out hard at the gym. Using machines for hours at a time, which led to back issues and eventually, s u r g e r y . - - My journey started in June 2015, one month after my back surgery. I was at a whopping 208.6 pounds. I was the heaviest I had ever been, and the saddest too. I was miserable and had resigned myself to the thoughts that nothing was going to work. When I looked at my reflection back then, it was easy to cover up the rolls, fix my makeup, curl my hair and feel pretty ok about myself sometimes. I knew the numbers said “obese,” but I didn’t feel like an exceptionally large person. I didn’t like that number on the label of my jeans, but I didn’t see myself as a plus size person either. I didn’t always feel comfortable when I was alone with my husband, but I also wasn’t about to let my weight interfere with my love life either. When I looked at my reflection it was the sick person staring back at me that troubled me more than anything. It wasn’t primarily about the weight when I decided to change. Sure, it was a factor. My protruding gut, aching body, high blood pressure, greasy skin, thinning hair, and the daily anxiety and depression that overwhelmed me even though I had nothing to be sad or worried about... all these signs were just screaming at me that I was unhealthy and growing more and more sick with each passing day. Even though my weight had been joked about or people would frequently ask me if I was pregnant, I still loved my food and hated moving my body more than I loved the idea of smaller clothes and hated feeling overweight. But I realized one day that if I continued on with the lifestyle I was living I would likely cut my life short, and for sure was not living anywhere near to my potential... I was not the person I wanted to be because I was unhealthy in many ways - the weight was just one of the visual signs of that. I believed that if I learned healthy habits, in time my body would reflect that instead, so I made it my mission to be a learner of health, and to make one small change at a time. Knowledge is powerful, but it’s taking action that puts that power in motion. #transformationtuesday

The jump from 130kgs to 140kgs was too much last night. First time I’ve really noticed a difference in strength between two different weeks. Last week my body was fuelled & hydrated. Since the challenge finished I have indulged I a few more sweets and haven’t kept up with my meal & water plan. Sure noticed it in my strength last night .... back on track today! My body doesn’t react well with 10kg jumps in weight, should have given 135kg a crack first to build my confidence and determination. Ladies, you don’t have to eat less just because you’re a girl! 💁🏼‍♀️ ⠀ Those “his” and “hers” meal photos where “hers” is always 100s of calories less than “his” are bs. They promote stereotypes and basic needs equations that are rarely accurate. ⠀ There are plenty of women who need just as much or more calories than their male counterpart. Unfortunately, society teaches us it’s better to walk around hangry and undernourished, it’s more ladylike. 🙄 ⠀ This is #dietculture at its finest. Don’t let society dictate how much you should eat. You should always listen to your body, it will not lead you astray. ⠀ If you’re hungry, eat until you’re satisfied, and don’t pay any attention to how much “he” eats. It doesn’t dictate how much you should have. ⠀ Real talk, the hubs and I ate the exact same amount for dinner. This wasn’t a fluke either. We almost always have similar dinner plates. I’m 5’7”, he’s 6’1 and outweighs me by quite a bit, but we still eat the same size dinner. Nutrition has always been my biggest struggle. Growing up, I would eat a bowl of ice cream every single night. It literally became an addiction & part of my night routine. I would eat when I was bored, tired, stressed, angry, sad, happy, proud, anxious, etc. I would always find an excuse to eat, especially sweets! 🍦🍪🍫🍩 ▫️ When I began college, I realized how important nutrition is physically, mentally & emotionally. & you better believe I wanted to do everything to avoid the freshman (+sophomore+junior+senior) 15. I thought working out 5 days a week would cancel out all the junk food I ate. However, it wasn’t until about 1 year ago, when I joined this program, that I realized how poor my food choices were & how awful I was at portioning out my food. ▫️ The picture on the left is of the colorful containers I use to portion out my food & the picture on the right is my meal prepping container full of my lunch for tomorrow! When I started this program I was terrified that I would starve to death. But it doesn’t work that way. Without those former versions of ourselves we’d lack our wisdom. We’d lack our knowledge and drive to do better, because we wouldn’t have anything to compare to. It hurts to look backwards sometimes - heck it even hurts to look in the mirror some mornings but if you shy away from who you are, or were, and what you learned from who you were, you won’t become the best version of yourself you can be now or in the future. Day 58: (sorry late post again!!) Tuesday workout was legs!! It felt SO good to get back to working out and while today I did wake up feeling a little congested and a little sore, I feel like I could definitely work out again tonight which makes me super happy!! Work is pretty shitty at the moment so having the gym as a release is really great for me and I think that’s why the last couple of weeks I have been feeling so flat - because I haven’t been able to work out and do work felt like it was consuming my life! Very happy to have that balance back that I soooo desperately need (and so does everyone tbh). It’s not good for one thing, whether it be work, family, a hobby to consume your entire life! It’s healthy to have a good balance and always make time for yourself!
