39 weeks pregnant versus 1 week postpartum! In the first picture I have +13kg and in the second still +3kg! I know where at least two of those kilos are and I don’t mind if they stay there 😂! • It was the weirdest feeling to still look pregnant the first days after having Céline 😳 However, this is perfectly normal as the uterus needs some time to return to its normal size! This actually happens amazingly fast (4-6 weeks), considering that it grows from 50g to around 1500 g during pregnancy. • Here are some tips on how to support postnatal regression: ✳️ Nurse your baby: the hormons released during nursing cause uterus contractions which support the regression ✳️ Stay in bed as much as possible and rest for at least the first 10 days. There is a reason it is called childbed! ✳️ Lie on your belly for at least 30 min twice a day! ✳️ Make sure to empty your bladder every 2-3 hours especially during the first days after giving birth! It’s amazing how much my perspective on the ‘perfect body’ has changed. In the before picture all I noticed was that my abs were not defined as much as I wanted them to be or that I had a higher percentage body fat than I wanted. Now none of that matters.. of course I would like to get back to my old workouts and be able to wear all my old dresses again but I am not obsessing over the fact that I don’t look the same as I used to because my body grew and carried another human being of course it’s going to look different! It’s so incredible! 😍💪🏼 On another note my posture is god awful now! Bring on the stretching and core work to help my body return to the correct alignment before any of the big lifts will be attempted, posture and alignment are so important to prevent injury especially post pregnancy!
Same girl.....different angle. I gotta say the spare tire is quite a bit smaller these days for sure, but it’s still there. . It’s all about perspective! I feel so good in this skin. I know I am doing everything I can to live my best life... . I eat healthy 80% of the time, I drink with friends I indulge in sweets, I have learned to love my body. . Sporting my Pelvic Guru t-shirt today from the awesome @pelvicguru1 who inspired me a few months ago to learn more about women’s pelvic health and share this passion with others. When I attended the Women’s Pelvic Health Mastermind & Mentoring Day in Florida back in May, my personal pelvic floor dysfunction struggles were the main reason why I wanted to attend. Naomi is three months and that just has me thinking...three months! Three whole months since I’ve given birth to her. Why does it feel like it was just yesterday?😦 She has developed a substantial amount over the course of the three months. First was recognizing movement as her eyes became fixated on certain objects including mama. Second was the cooing and making beautiful song like sounds I can just get lost in. A month ago while I was feeding her she gazed into my eyes smiling such a big smile as some milk oozed down her lip which triggered happy tears down my cheeks. I’ve heard of postpartum depression but have you heard of postpartum lala land? I’m so in love with this little heart that I hardly mind our every other day blow outs that have left mustard like stains on some clothing. Hint (Never wear clothes you like while changing diapers). This is what my mornings look like now: 7AM, only after sleeping one hour since the last feeding at 5AM (they take about an hour from start to finish,) a messy daybed, covered in burp rags ranging from clean and unused to soaked in fresh spit up or crusty from the earlier feeding. Two babies with milk dribbled down their faces, necks, and PJs, alternating back and forth between feeding, burping, and wiping each of them clean. My coffee is on the nightstand, that I made in a hurry while the bottles warmed up, and I’ve had two sips. Thankfully, I’ve learned to put it in a thermos cup to keep it warm enough as it takes me 2+ hours to normally finish it. When everyone says being a new parent is hard they never expressed exactly HOW hard it would be; no one told me just how unglamorous, tiring, messy, trying, frustrating, repetitive, confusing, and utterly exhausting this time would be. They also didn’t tell me just how much I would love these two humans— a love so strong that the late nights, early mornings, and inconsolable hours of crying are not something I would EVER trade and I would do this again (for THESE babies, not for any more 😂) a million times if it meant I’d get to be their mama ❤️ As I get their bath ready right now and they fuss while doing some tummy time together, I remind myself this stage might be SO long right now while we’re in the middle of it but I know when they are big I will look back and think about how quickly time went by; I will wish time would stand still, if only for a moment, so I could enjoy them being little for just a bit longer 💕 • • • #ThisIsMotherhood #momlife #mamalife #mama #motherhood #motherhoodunplugged #twinmama #twinmom #twinsies #twinnies #twins #fraternaltwins #baby #babyspam #newborn #babies #mommy #postpartum #mommylove #mamabear #truthaboutmotherhood #blessed #blessings #twinbabies

I was carrying identical twin boys and my son Tayt’s twin stopped growing in utero. I had a close family member respond to the death of my child who commented over the phone that at least I had one baby left plus maybe its for the best because how could I handle having twins and three year old all at the same time. Because of that specific experience, as well as, other less empathetic support from family members, I didn't realize until typing for this project that I am actually a mom who experienced a miscarriage. I, Tara, had a baby that died inside of me. For the first time since I miscarried I actually broke down and mourned the loss of my baby. Crazy that I finally had that moment 6 years after my loss happened. Its challenging to find a safe space to have the conversation with someone regarding pregnancy loss and birth within the same gestational period.⠀ ⠀ Being a black woman with black children watching my every move, I had to show em that having melanated skin was stunning, wide hips were powerful, kinky hair was gravity defying and therefore magical. I love myself more now than ever before because of my children. I have seen the affects of moms being extremely insecure about their bodies in front of their young children and in turn their children have also taken up those same emotional insecurities pertaining to their body. I didn't want to be the one to plant those insecure seeds into my children.⠀ ⠀ I chose to participate in this event because, why not? I belong here. Women of color belong here. Single mothers belong here. Moms who have experienced loss and birth within the same pregnancy belong here. Perfect day for a little walk 😊 Just like her both brother, Isabella refuses to lay flat on her. Therefore we couldn't use the bassinet as planned. For a long time, I contemplated if I should make this post. I told myself that "those posts are for people who have worse struggles than me. My issues aren't worth others hearing," but I think that’s part of the problem. When I started my program, I didn't want to wait until after grad school to have kids. We were married for years, and there never is an "easy" time for kids. After prelims were over, we started trying and I was thrilled when I got pregnant. I had an easy pregnancy, but after everything was difficult; labor was longer than normal, my tailbone broke during delivery, and my baby couldn’t nurse properly. School guaranteed 6 weeks off (before my baby could even hold up his head), but thankfully my PIs let me take more. At 8 weeks, I pressured myself to go back because I didn’t want to fall behind. I cried every day for the first month. My PIs and lab rescued me and let me take a half day off each week; that was enough to stop the constant crying. I went to my school's counseling services, but since they didn’t see postpartum women much (or ever) they told me that everything I was feeling sounded normal and I didn’t really need help. As a grad-student parent you constantly feel like you’re failing. Either you’re failing as a parent, because you left your child to go work (and every distraction means your time was wasted), or failing as a student, because you can’t help but constantly think of your child. The summer before my 5th year, lab dynamics changed, and life became too much; I didn’t feel I could handle school anymore. I begged my PIs to let me Master out, but they said no. They reminded me that I didn’t have long left, and PPD emotions don’t last forever. I was upset with them, but now I am grateful. Now I have a job I love and having a second child outside of grad school is so much easier. There is a light at the end of the long tunnel, and my kids and PhD were both worth the struggle. I only wish I had found professional help when I needed it.

Its going to be recipe week over here. I get asked all the time how my eating habits are and like what kind of diet I am on or do I count macros and things like that. And when I say no I often get lots of confused looks. Because in today's society you are taught that in order to lose weight you must be on a diet and you can no longer enjoy all the yummy food and you must now eat like a rabbit. But that's just not true! I believe both micro (vitamins &minerals) and Macronutrients (proteins, complex carbs, and fats) are all super Important, and each one has it's own job in your body to do. And sending one to do the others job because you cut it out. Take carbs. A good amount of people think in order to lose weight you must cut carbs out. Carbs are our bodies main energy source so those people try and replace that energy with higher fats and yes that will work but that's (thought I would add in that I am not talking about people with diabetes or other medical issues, this is mainly for the average Joe) not how your body was made to create energy, and over time can lead to medical issues. Example look at Bob Harper. His doctors have said the reason he had his heart attack was because he had followed a high fat low carb diet for so long. So for me I don't count macros because I personally don't want to think of food as numbers but I also think it's good for thos just starting out to do it for a short time to just get an Idea of serving sizes and so the can find there Maintenance caloric intake. What I do is and every meal I make sure it is balanced with all the macros and has the foods that will give me my micronutrients as well. Today I am making crockpot chicken and will post the finished product on here when it's all done as well as step by step directions in my IG story. The planning and pumping turned out to be easier than storing and carrying three days worth of milk onto the return flight. You live and you learn! Any great travel tips for breastfeeding/pumping?
Released from my doctor to workout so back at it strong! 2 mile run with {very} small elevations and a few pushups in between. It was definitely not even close to my normal run or pace, but I did it. I didnt think you could pay me to share the photo on the left. Today I woke up and decided to do a progress photo. (On my monthly cycle and all!) And I’m sharing this because one, I didnt think I had changed that much until I saw the difference! My weight on the scale has been very slow to change (not letting that frustrate me). The weight on the scale can’t tell you that your legs may not be much smaller but they look a HELL of a lot better! 52 pounds down since birth. I still have 13 pounds to go. Second, I haven’t been perfect, I’ve just kept trying! My challenge ended and I didnt give up because it was over, I just kept going. I constantly say every choice adds up. From the first picture to the current, I have moved out of Chicago, moved to a temp place, moved across the country, gone on vacation/s, had MANY visitors, and now a 1 year old to look after with very little help, etc. I just never quit anytime I made a bad choice. I kept trying to make more good ones! I never said all or nothing. I just kept going. I kept looking at what wasn’t working and kept making modifications. Could I be further along, yes but I’m not focusing on being perfect, I’m focusing on being happy...in this journey and at my goal and beyond. PROOF of Motherhood: The skin of my belly will always sag. If I’m being transparent, I’m not 100% ok with it yet. Although I know these lines are proof of carrying three beautiful children in my body, the inner critic still creeps in and tells me I want something that’s not mine. I’m a work in progress and one day I will love my body wholly and completely because I want that relationship. I’m working for it by showing up to learn about how to best care for my body and in turn, it shows up to allow me to do all the things I want to do without screaming out in pain. Learning to let go of expectations and love what is. Where are you learning to do this in your life? This is my Last Week of my 4 Day A Week Workout Program and I am feeling AMAZING 🤩🤩 Tjis has been the first program I have completed since Having Kole and I am Super Proud of My Bounce Back after Having a Baby at 37years old .. This Csection definitely had me worried I wouldnt get to where I was and I was Right it made me stronger .. 💪💪 I for once feel like I have a super easy Puzzle piece solved my Nutrition ..
