Day 7 of #hotforchristmas challenge. For the next three days we do a core focused workout.🔥🔥🔥⁣ ⁣ My personal goals for the challenge is not necessarilly to lose weight, but tone up , and return my pre-pregnancy strength, agility, endurance as well as return to the habit of regular workouts. I know this is not the most flattering picture. Tonight as my husband was helping me take progress pictures, Maura kept running into the picture so here I am laughing at her and he snapped a picture. When I first looked at the pictures he took, I cringed. But after a couple minutes I couldn’t help but be proud of the body that you see here. This body has gotten me almost 26 years of life. It’s been a while since I have posted a #mombod update! I’m #7monthspostpartum this week. i think I have lost close to 23lbs, I’m not sure BecAuse I don’t own a scale and the one at the doctors office I am being weighed with clothes, so who knows! But I do know I have lost lots of inches!!! I wish I could say I have made it to the gym everyday, but I haven’t. I wish I could say I made fabulous food everyday, but I haven’t done that either🤷‍♀️ but what I have done is keep as consistent with my 80/20 rule, tracking my macros, doing my training when I can and listening to my body. Some days I have had to give up my workouts for bathtime- it’s not a terrible trade off but mental health days are just as important. I have had to nurture my emotional side more than I would like to admit- it’s been a tough year for me in that department. In short, do what you need to do to feel better, and to move forward, and to reach those goals, even if that means taking it slower and finding a new balance. Great Fitness class today with one of our Postpartum Moms! . . . Sled pushes are a great conditioning tool. It’s easy to maintain a neutral spine and IAP and you can either work on speed or strength, depending on the weight added. Pull-ups are good for strengthening the back and upper body, but it’s important to slowly work your way to an unassisted pull-up. Using a resistance band will ensure your rib cage remains stacked over your pelvis (which means you can effectively create and hold IAP). We practiced bar hangs while maintaining IAP last week before we jumped to pull-ups this week. Slow is fast!

I am NOT a dieter. You won’t find me cutting out food groups or telling myself m&m’s are off limits. Yet- I’ve lost weight and kept it off. I’d love to say it’s as simple as having amazing willpower, but I still struggle at times just like you do. #notperfect . For me, I had to stop thinking foods were “bad” and that *I* was bad for eating them. As if going “off plan” made me less worthy as a human? Sheesh. Nonsense I tell you! . I wanted to change my outsides (hello leftover baby weight and saggy mom tummy, wish I didn’t see ya 👋🏼 ) but what I realized was that until I changed my INSIDES (my mindset), nothing on the outside would change (long term anyway). . Did I use enough parentheses for you? 😂 . What I’m trying to say is- I’ve lost weight and kept it off... I’ve used amazing tools like at home workouts and have learned a lot from my fave nutrition program... for sure- but GUYS. The MOST IMPORTANT THING on my weight loss and postpartum journey has been changing my MINDSET. Replacing the faulty programming I’ve been using (unknowingly in many cases) has made a DRAMATIC impact on my life. . You wanna change your life? Your body? . I went back to work on Tuesday after 10 weeks of maternity leave. It hit me hard and I’ve been feeling like a zombie since Jack still wakes up multiple times during the night. I made it through but not without some blood, sweat, tears and a fender bender with my neighbor (which was my fault 🤦‍♀️). I only managed to run once before work and it was just two miles. I was looking forward to getting a run in (and some naps) this weekend, and then my husband surprised me with a new pair of shoes for our anniversary. I’ve been needing new ones for a while and he got me the Brooks Ghost 11s! I have been wearing the 10s and love them. Today I went out for my first run in them and they felt so good. I didn’t realize how worn down my old ones were, probably from the extra weight I was carrying during pregnancy. BACK ATTACK 🖤 my back was on 🔥🔥🔥 after & it’s still sore two days later
That’s a wrap! 🤜🏼💥🤛🏼 . My second program ever is complete as of this morning! . . Poundage and inches wise not a single digit changed from 4 weeks ago, but strength and agility wise 🌑 and 🌝 difference. . . Each Friday and Saturday we did the exact same moves for the same amount of time and recorded our scores. That way we could track our non scale progresses. . . Our last set on strength day was a squat/push up challenge. 10 squats to 1 push up then 9 squats to 2 push ups all the way down to 1 squat to 10 push ups—for time. Sounds killer. Not gonna lie, it is. 🤷🏼‍♀️ . . My first week took me 3:03 to complete the whole challenge. I wanted to do every push up on my toes, but I had to move to my knees for the last 5. . . Today, I completed the challenge in 2:12!!!!! That’s almost a minute faster guys!!!! Aaaaaand every single push up was done on my toes. With out even considering my knees!!! . . There’s something special about finishing a program from start to finish. Not to say there weren’t set backs, it actually took me longer to do this program than written because #momlife . . . But this journey isn’t about perfection. It’s about effort. And when you bring that effort every single day, that’s where transformation happens. That’s how changed occurs. . . Being a new mom is tough. From no sleep to adjusting to a demanding little human is hard. On top of it, your body went through a lot of changes in pregnancy and then you gave birth (hello pelvic floor!). . . . I get it, I’ve been there and it’s hard to see how you can fit “exercise” in your new normal. First, I think it’s important to mention that you should really start your “exercise” by rehabbing and reconnecting with your body. There are so many benefits to strengthening your deep core and pelvic floor and reconnecting with your muscles before starting your favorite activities. . . . If you are a new mom, you can start by doing some pelvic floor contractions or diaphragmatic breaths while feeding baby (and we know that you are doing that A LOT!). Doing these a few times a day can really go a long way in your healing journey. . . . I designed my Postnatal Rehab & Retrain Fitness Series specifically for the early postpartum mom to learn how to reconnect, rehab and retrain her muscles. We meet once a week and you can even bring baby with you 👶. There’s something that feels so good about being around other moms that get it and spending some time focusing on YOU. . . . Well I had some “help” during my workout tonight. Little man just can’t resist crawling all over someone who’s on the floor. I’ve started incorporating more inner core and pelvic floor work because that race this weekend was a bit of a wake up call. My core is not where it needs to be for any decent running. Onto the good news! I did a benchmark tonight and I completed it in just under 6.5 minutes! That’s 1:37 faster than I did it just 20 days ago and it’s a new personal best! If that’s not progress, then I don’t know what is! The most noticeable thing for me was not having to take breaks during the push-up sets. I did three sets of 15 and I felt strong! I’m putting in the work and seeing results! You can have excuses or you can have Results...not both. I went from a meathead gym rat thinking home workouts were weak. Then I had my second baby and my free time screeched to a halt. Had I said no thanks to this opportunity I guarantee would continued paying $40/m for the gym and gone maybe 1x a month. Anyone who has more than one kid knows that time is not on your side anymore. Anyway, working out at home was my only option. Let me tell you, I was wrong about these workouts being weak. Holy shit I was wrong. I have done MMA, Insanity, a 13w personal training style workout with timed nutrition, and now I’ve been loving lifting at home with a mix of high intensity interval training. You heard me LIFTING WEIGHTS AT HOME! I never ever pictured myself having a space in my home for workouts bc i was such a gym rat. Now, i love having a space devoted to my self care and sometime Buff with Bae!! • • Here I am, done my second round of this amazing lifting at home program, Endorphined up, anxiety gone, loving the skin I’m in and certain that this is only just the beginning. SO much has changed in the 9 months that separate these 2 photos. 🏅 . I’m currently ⬇️down 15+ lbs and shaved 30 minutes off my half marathon time from March.🏃🏻‍♀️And Hunter is no longer a bald baby with a cast! 🙌🏻 . I really had no business running a half marathon 4 months postpartum. I was still nursing. I was EXHAUSTED and OVERWHELMED being a new momma. 🙈 . But I was determined to prove to myself I could still do it. IT WAS ROUGH!! 😵 . I had only been running maybe 3x a week when I could get away from my baby and hadn’t been doing any other cross training. . I was unhappy not only with my time but how I felt and knew something had to change. So I started doing workouts at home while Hunter napped. 👶🏻 . I did a variety of workouts that included HIIT, weight training and cardio all from my living room and followed a simple nutrition plan. It has changed my body in ways running never has.🥗 . I will always be a runner. I love the competition against myself and the time alone on the road. But the results I have gotten through quick, tough workouts and finally learning what I should eat can’t be beat. It has made me a better runner and momma!🏃🏻‍♀️ .
