I finally got a rod that’s not a broomstick 😂. Clip of my morning warm-up. There is so much to do with this thing! I love it. . . I also wanted to share some thoughts with you fine people. There is a lot of debate throughout the yoga community about what yoga is or is not. It’s very easy to get caught up in a strict mindset. We come out of teacher training and have a set list of ideas about the practice. What is or is not supposed to take place on a yoga mat. Note: I’m not talking about form. Form is extremely important for safety. Rather, I’m referring to the routine. I learned so much from my teacher, but two of the most important game changers that have always stuck with me are:1)Anything can be yoga asana as long as you set the right intention 2) Question the things I’ve taught you and discover truth for yourself. I understand that not everyone might agree with me here. But the way I see it is this: Yoga itself is a mental practice. A seeking to realize the purusa as separate from prakrti. The path of yoga deals first and foremost with the nature of the mind and consciousness. Patanjali himself only dedicated three of his yoga sutras to the mention of asana. Yoga as primarily postures is a purely Western idealization. Asana has evolved with time. There are the earliest ideas of Hatha yoga. Followed by innovators such as Pattabhi Jois and B.K.S Iyengar who furthered the idea of postures playing a key role in yoga practice. Yogis found that mastery of the physical body was linked to mastery of the mind and senses. I have a deep love for traditional yoga but I also realize it’s evolution. Physical exercise is a science and science leads the way for new discovery. So who is the authority as to what can or can not be yoga? Yoga asana for me is strength, flexibility and mobility. My practice and teaching involves ways to improve all of those things. My classes will never be purely traditional. I’m adventurous and innovative. That’s who I am. Is that to say I don’t have mad respect for yogis who prefer to stick to a more traditional guideline? Hell no. It’s about authenticity. Be you. Teach what resonates with you. I feel it’s time... to add my name to this profile. Why did it take so long? The reason is simple: as said I’m a reserved person with a normal life. I’m not popular and not used to social media exposure. I don’t wear eccentric clothes and I don’t do eccentric things. I’m a mechanical engineer, going everyday to the office, take my kids to school and sport classes. When I started my account my only aim was to feel free to express my artistic side, that is very strong in me, and that I had no chances to let free in my daily life... it was my exit strategy... Probably I was scared to show my soft/sensitive side and to be judged for being much undressed compared to my daily rigorous -and often black- dressing (but here I’m still more dressed than my beach bikini 😜). I live and am from a rather small town, in Bari province, in the south of Italy. Just didn’t want my image to affect my family in any way. For me I had and have no problems. Overthinking probably. Yes, overthinking. Now I feel it’s time 😊 so... my name is Caterina Patimo! I was going to write about flexibility and strength this week, but this morning took an unexpected turn so I chose to uncover and investigate some deeply felt hurts that I’ve left unaddressed. . I read @najwazebian beautiful post this morning about letting go of hurt and pain, forgiveness of self and other, releases of self and other. . It takes tenacity and courage to forgive. It takes a strength larger than the pain to release. Though it might be easier to rage and cry and act out of vengeance, the person of integrity understands that hurting someone else because of the way you’ve been hurt adds nothing to the world. It only takes away some of its joy. . Today, this week, this next year, I am committed to releasing the grip of old wounds. I am committed to freedom. I am committed to integrity. I am committed to filling the world with more joy and more healing The actions and choices of one human will never deter me from my mission. Let’s lead by example. . Today I worked mostly on back bending and here’s a little transition I’ve included into my practice (before doing this I warmed up my body for about 40 minutes). - the video is a little sped up 🐇- . Backbends used to be my favorite things to practice but since a few months, as I’ve been focusing more on inversions (especially on handstands), I’ve noticed my back became a little less flexible. The problem with most Earth-bound religions is they instill fear by describing Divinity only through the unknown (no, you as a human being can not comprehend “infinity” “God” “everything” “existence” or “Neutral”—as our awareness is too small and attached to the world.) Only having unknowns does not provide answers to the deepest spiritual questions. To remedy this gross injustice, and offer the true inner journey to Divinity, yoga philosophy describes what we don’t know about God through what we do know as a conscious experience. God is the Ear behind the ear. The Eye behind the eye. The Taste behind the taste. The Touch behind the touch. Just as the pieces of the telescope cannot look back on itself when it sees the stars to comprehend that it is a tool to see everything, you cannot feel, hear, or experience God. This truly resonates with me this morning as I return to my day to day life. Thank you @yung_pueblo . . . . This morning, I woke up at 5am and decided to not push away the nudge to practice. Letting go of my fear of change for the better. Somehow after only a week away I come home and see things so much more deeply. Slowing down makes moments so much more grand. Folding towels this morning and really was feeling them and seeing them. I know this may sound funny but so much I am somewhere else in the moment. Rise & grind 😘 Week 5 of complexes. 10 double cleans 6 double presses. 6 rounds. When I started and the rounds were 4 I couldn’t finish the last round of presses without a break. Now, with 6 rounds I pushed through (literally) to the end. Feeling proud and strong on this Monday thanks to @sleepingtigerfitness and dedication. Always love the use of block(s) in my practice, and I always say: it’s a good investment! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1. Upper Back 3-5min Set up blocks in T- Shape: one in between shoulder blades & the other under the head. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2. Lower Back & Body 1min x 2 Lowest height of block under sacrum, pull one knee into chest, keeping shoulders down, then change leg. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3. Lower Back 1-2min If you can go deeper, start increasing the backbend by adjusting the height of the block. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 4. Supine Twist 2min x 2 Drop knees to the side and focus on breathing into the lower back. Keep thighs closer to you with feet and shoulders relaxed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 5. Reclining Butterfly 2min Just letting the hips open, inner thighs stretch. Monday mantra: slow down. Honestly, this has been my mantra for the past month or so. I’m not sharing as much lately, but I’m processing a lot. It feels like my body is the one communicating. It’s kind of like slowing down allowed me to turn the radio to just the right station so the message comes through clear. Then the little inspirational message from my tea bag said, “Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.” - Lao Tzu Love little winks from the universe like that. Everything is right on time. Come move as slow or fast as you need to. One breath at a time. See you on the mat tonight at 6pm @ddysavannah 🧘🏻‍♀️

Why are you here? 🤔 - In sanskrit it's called Dharma or purpose. In Japanese it's called "ikigai" or reason for being. 🙏 - We hear it all the time but how do we know what our purpose is if we do realize that we have one? ☝️ - More than 5 years ago, I was in what I coined as "concealed depression." 😔 - No one knew not even my close friends and family had a clue that I would be angry at God every night for practically everything - my job, my personal life, etc. 💔 - I was in a constant state of comparing myself and my life to other people's which became detrimental to my well being. 🤢 - Little did I know that it was a process I had to go through so I can share a journey that can probably inspire or help people who may be in the same situation. 🧚‍♀️ - It started with my daily practice of yoga, self awareness, mind setting and adapting a lifestyle that cared about all other beings. 🙏 - It may sound like an absolute transformation but I am still "evolving" everyday to refine my answer to WHY AM I HERE? 🤔 - This is what I know for sure though, if you are in a challenging situation now, instead of focusing on what else could go wrong with your life, think about what is already right and what you can do to make it better 👍 - It may be as simple as creating a meal based on the recipes online. Attempting to write a short poem for yourself. Practicing putting on make up from tutorials. 👄 And if you find yourself losing track of time because you have a tiny spark of interest in something again, then it may eventually lead you to your Dharma. 👀 - Those small kitchen experiments on making vegan meals led to my advocacy now which is to promote more mindful eating habits and lifestyle. 🥗 - Those 5-minute yoga for beginners sessions that I tried before led me to sharing to people that there is a holistic way to achieve what you want based on the lessons of yoga. 👌🏻 - If you feel like you are wandering aimlessly, with no passion, no purpose, I probably know how you feel. But I believe you are bound for greatness. Just take one step out of your comfort zone and watch new doors open🤗 Let's make 2019 your best year ever. - Your biggest fan, @claradayh
