If you have IBS or bowel problems for a while, I am sure you have heard about the FODMAP diet.
For the ones that haven’t, FODMAPs means Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides and Polyols. These are carbohydrates that are poorly absorbed in the small intestine and can cause diarrhoea in some people and symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, including gas, bloating, constipation, flatulence, pain and nausea in others.
By reducing the consumption of high FODMAP foods those symptoms can improve significantly, BUT it is not recommended to be stuck to this restrictive diet long term. Here’s why!
1. 🤹♀️Most people do not react to all the high FODMAP groups of foods. The diet is a diagnostic tool and after identifying the ones that affect you, you should reintroduce as many other foods as you can.
2. 🏝Actually most people with IBS can maintain good symptom control with the reintroduction of some high FODMAP foods. This makes it easier to LIVE and ENJOY LIFE. You may know that certain food causes a little bloating but will that really affect your life significantly? Bloating sucks, true, but a restrictive life also sucks and it can even create nutritional deficiencies.
3. 🏋️♀️Many high FODMAP foods are also high in prebiotics, which provide food for the healthy bacteria found in our gut. If you are avoiding these long term, it will definitely affect the health of your microbiome (the gut bacteria) and most likely cause you even MORE symptoms.

Then getting to know the wonderful girls who came from all over England to attend the retreat was so special, each taking back to their homes a little piece of serenity from their time in #lymeregis
plus loads of knowledge and inspo about eating whole foods to help balance hormones 😀

My dinner last night! I was craving something super healthy and light as I haven’t really had that many geeens this trip!😬This meal is as simple as it gets, made from one plate and one knife out of a van in a random parking lot next to the ocean.

👍🏽Olives are really great at healing ulcers, and I’ve got a few in my mouth and on my tongue. I get them when I’m run down and stressed! Hopefully the olives work their magic as I find it hard to talk with so many ulcers and they make me spit when I talk, which I find mortifying 😂
👍🏽Olive Oil has amazing anti-inflammatory properties and is a great source for healthy fats!
👍🏽Sweet Potato Hummus, this one had the least amount of garlic at the supermarket and garlic is a classic cause of upset stomachs.
👍🏽Beetroot Chips crunched up and sprinkled over the salad as I love something crunchy and they’re the perfect healthy alternative to croutons!
Whilst I cooked and ate this meal I saw dolphins and a turtle!!! 💕

Well both girls have strep. We caught it early so that's good but now that June is on an antibiotic all the cdiff fears come back.

Kefir increases moisture and bulk in the stool.
To avoid constipation, go when there is the urge to go. Exercise for at least 30min a day and stay hydrated with plenty of water.
