The photos in the Eat Lancet report show lots of pretty veggies, but actually they recommend eating only 78 calories from vegetables, which is 3.1% of the diet. They want you to get half your daily calories from processed grains, added sugars, and added oils. What foods are you supposed to eat? - Well, don’t let me choose that for you. Consider letting Mother Nature though. - And no, not an all or nothing thing. That’d be too much in today’s world. I like to think we humans created donuts for the odd enjoyment — just not necessarily everyday or 3 at a time every day. - And trust me I’ve been there. You might be someone who eats too much of the processed stuff — and I get it, it’s delicious — but I promise I’ve never seen anyone regret leaving overeating that stuff behind them. - And even though I’m not necessarily into “paleo” it is, without question, the only nutritional structure out there that makes sense — even if some of their claims aren’t trust, they’re still telling you to eat natural foods. - And that’s what you should be eating. Like eat food that your great grandparents had access too. Fruits, vegetables, potatoes, rice, beans, oils, and some meat and fish. - Does it get boring? - Honestly, cooking skills could be important here. Researchers from the University of Oxfordestimate that in 2020 global meat consumption will result in $285 billion in health care costs and 2.4 million deaths from heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and colorectal cancer. But a global tax on meat could help prevent 220,000 deaths and decrease health care costs by $41 billion. It would also help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. “Our findings make it clear that the consumption of red and processed meathas a cost, not just to people’s health and to the planet, but also to the health care systems and the economy,” says Dr. Marco Springmann, the lead author of the study. Tried creating my own banana breakfast bars... It failed. Making your own snacks and desserts can be so much healthier than store bought. YOU get to chose what goes in them and they won't have any nasties like artificial sweeteners, colours, flavours or preservatives. They will be more nutritious because they wouldn't have gone under large amounts of processing like bought packaged food has. High temperature and prolonged heat during processing destroys vitamins such as C & B. Even making your own chocolate cake at home is healthier than bought. My #wife went on a weeklong field trip across #Taiwan to learn about #homegrown #veggies and #fruits , #sustainableliving , #permaculture and other associated topics. Many of the people behind left their #successful #careers to live closer to #nature . During that process they discovered that it does not take malls or restaurants to survive nor consumption to thrive. We are only at the beginning learning about those things but once your eyes slightly open to that path it’s hard to turn away. I never thought I would ever write anything like that. A little more than two years ago we still were living with a domestic helper who cooked and cleaned for us. I was mainly unaware of how much food costs, how it was produced and why bother about #gmo , #processedfood etc. The fact that I‘m happy about this little #healthy present on the picture my wife gave me as gift from her trip shows that I‘m on the right track. Thank goodness for #porridge ! Yesterday I ate on the hoof using ready meals for lunch and supper (plus a banana and a small mango smothie). I've only eaten home prepared whole foods for the last 16 days and I really noticed a difference yesterday. My sandwich (@pretamangeruk ) was good, my dinner (@marksandspencer ), not so much. I got home with a bad taste in my mouth and I was hungry. My taste buds have adapted to enjoying fresh food, and the fibre in my new diet has meant I haven't felt hungry. Whilst it's great that vegans have far greater food choices available all of a sudden, I hope the commercial markets don't strip #veganism and #wholefood #plantbased eating of their intrinsic simplicity and goodness. #veganuary2019 #vegan #readymeals #processedfood

It is always better to stay away of processed food and eat healthy real food. The earlier you build those good habits for your children, the higher their chances of eating healthy in their adulthood will be.
