My top muscle building foods? 🥦 🐠 🥛 🥜? . . I often get asked about my diet and what foods I like to eat to build muscle. As a pescatarian (I eat fish but not meat), I’ve had a lot of doubt in my ability to build muscle and strength because I don’t live off chicken breasts every day 😜 . Even though I enjoy fish, my diet is largely plant based. When trying to build more muscle and gain some more mass I enjoy eating things like roasted veg, quinoa, soy, nuts and nut butters, rice, chickpeas and other beans/pulses, healthy fats like avocados and oils, fruit, high fibre grains etc. . Making sure that my caloric surplus is built from healthy food sources which will help nourish my body and supply it with vitamins, minerals, proteins and other healthy components like phytochemicals is very important to me. Today was a day for finalising a few client jobs and somehow working in some meal prep because tomorrow we are GOING CAMPING. They have started to promote their own line of protein foods, of which this protein bread is one.⠀ .⠀ 👀 One quick look at the finer details shows that this is nothing more than marketing BS designed to cash in on the 'protein is good' bandwagon.⠀ .⠀ 🍞 In actual fact the protein bread has just 0.5g of extra protein per slice. And I'll say that again...0.5g!!!⠀ .⠀ 🥖 Does that really constitute a food being reclassified as high protein??? It just seems like crazy marketing 💩 to me.⠀ .⠀ 💷 And then to top it all off, the loaf is 60% more expensive!!! Sounds to me like a lot of wasted cash.⠀ .⠀ 🍗 My advice to you is to get your protein from good quality sources like fresh meat and fresh fish. I made ahead these omelette pancakes by whisking up egg whites and then folding them into beaten yolks, blended with oats and grated parmesan cheese. I then stacked them with spinach, sliced tomatoes, red onions, mushrooms and strips of bacon. Each stack serves two people and they slice nicely and heat up in the microwave as needed! So how do you get enough protein in your diet? - Well, let’s start with why you should first. - Fullness, increased ability to add lean muscle and increased ability to hold onto lean muscle while dieting. Recover faster from workouts, and cover your basic health needs while your body needs more on top if you’re exercising intensely (HIIT, sports, strength training). - If you want to get toned, sure, you’ll want to be strength training, but your efforts will go much farther, if you get enough protein. - Here’s the problem: - Hummus, nuts, quinoa, and peanut butter may be tasty, and maybe even very convenient, but they don’t actually have much protein. - And although they do have some, and you can just eat large quantities of these foods to get more protein, the problem is they’ll come along with A LOT of calories. - Wanna get 30 grams of protein from peanut butter? You’re looking at 650 calories. - On the other hand, wanna get 30 grams of protein from chicken, fish, protein powder, Greek yogurt or other foods on the left side? - You’re looking at 150-250 calories. - So which foods do you think you’ll need in order to keep protein high enough to keep muscle and encourage fullness throughout the day while helping you eat in a calorie range low enough to cut fat? - Of course, it’s these foods high in protein, but relatively low in calories. - I would be looking at 2-3 sources from the left per day. So 2-3 of your meals based around protein foods. - For me, it’s protein powder and meat/fish. - The rest of my protein may come from eggs, lentils, or something else, but I get at least 100 grams a day from meat/fish and protein powder. And to get it, from these two sources, I take in only about 600 calories. - So, I usually have about 1400-1900 calories, depending on my goals, to get another 60-80 grams of protein and create taste and enjoyment through non-protein foods like potatoes, oats, dressing, etc. You can be creative here, try and make most of your choices natural whole foods. - So, choose 2-3 of these sources each day and build your meals around that. - That way you’ll keep calories in a good spot, stay satisfied, and get more tone and definition. - Sound good?

Ich werde dadurch sicher ein paar Abonnenten verlieren aber damit kann ich leben. Of all the macronutrients, protein seems to have the best reputation. Recently it’s being added to what seems like every cereal, granola bar, & even potato chip!⠀ .⠀ . ⠀ Companies are aware that you’re probably seeking something high in protein so they’re finding ways to shout it out on their labels more & more. However, this may not be a bad thing. From my experience of counseling thousands of clients over the years, I’ve noticed a trend; protein tends to be inadequate at breakfast and snack time and over-consumed at dinner time. ⠀ .⠀ .⠀ If a person were to eat a little bit of protein throughout the day rather than all at once, they would be more likely to stay fuller longer, reduce cravings, keep their blood sugars in better control and recover from workouts more efficiently. ⠀ .⠀ .⠀ Remember, it’s all about balance. All food groups are important; we just need to pick the healthy options from each group and select healthier cooking methods before consumption (ie. Bake, grill, roast, broil, or steam).⠀ .⠀ .⠀ When choosing meat, choose the lean cuts. Lean cuts will have less than 10g total fat & less than 4.5 grams of saturated fat per 3.5 oz serving. Examples include: ⠀ .⠀ - Skinless chicken breast ⠀ - Pork tenderloin ⠀ - 93% lean ground meat of any kind⠀ - Lean Beef (look for “loin” or “round” in the name)⠀ .⠀ .⠀ Not a big meat eater? Here are some other good sources: ⠀ .⠀ - Fish ⠀ - Eggs / egg whites ⠀ - Tofu / tempeh ⠀ - Plain Greek yogurt ⠀ - Cottage cheese ⠀ .⠀ .⠀ Not seeing more plant based sources? MATCHA LATTES & MONDAY MUSINGS - BODY ACCEPTANCE || Summer time is rolling around again which means it’s time to buy a new bikini. I know that my body is different now to what it was. I am not going to torture myself at the gym daily or restrict my eating. For me this would only start a downward trajectory to the renewal of disordered eating. Instead I am choosing to ACCEPT THE BODY I HAVE. I know that I treat it well, I exercise frequently and I eat the foods I need to nourish my body. My body has grown with pregnancy, shrunk with illness and blossomed with a constant rise and fall of hormones. It has been through a lot, it has gotten me through a lot and I love it for that. I love my body and I accept it as it is. My belly might be a little wobbly with some stretch marks, my breasts aren’t quite as perky as they were (& a whoooole lot smaller let’s be honest). But this is me. I have grown and fed 3 babies. My body is different now compared to ten years ago but with those changes have come growth. Results baby!!! 3 weeks postpartum from having twin boys by C section .. I’m 4’11 & Latina so being in shape is very important to me because every one knows that latinas can get very round and curvy in areas we don’t want. Diabetes also run in my family so that is the last thing I want for myself. Weight training during my pregnancy was the best decision I made because I honestly can say it helped my recovery with having a c section. I’m not on a diet. What I am doing is eating healthy. It’s a lifestyle . And if you say you’re going on a diet your setting yourself up to fail. No one likes diets. And psychologically the word “diet” is a stressful word and no one likes to do diets. So change your lifestyle if you want to succeed in losing weight and feeling healthier with more energy and honestly it clears your mind, eating healthy also helps stabilize your mood.
