Speaking of oxomoco - their smoked peach margarita is INCREDIBLE! I ordered mine with mezcal but I’m sure the regular one is just as great. I didn’t take a picture of it, so here’s a pic of a different cocktail from @_oxomoco_
‘s Instagram. 10/10 recommend and will definitely be coming back here to try the food soon.
Big Trouble in Little Cynar
One of our favorite nearby restaurants is Pizzeria Toro, located in Durham, NC. They feature top-of-the-line pizza with a perfect cocktail menu. We recently tried the Big Trouble in Little Cynar, a Negroni variation, and we were amazed at the exceptional relationship between sweetness and bitterness.
The Cynar brings a unique flavor that sets this drink apart from a traditional Campari-forward Negroni. Typical garnish would be an orange twist. Since we were fresh out of oranges, a cherry had to do the trick tonight.

There’s always room for s’more weekend.
Two years ago @zanethebutcher
stepped behind the bar and brought a deep passion and comprehensive knowledge of all things agave but more importantly a big heart and easy going style that will be missed by all. This weekend marks his last at Sugar House before he sets off on various travels around the country exploring all the food/bev scene has to offer. Join us Fri/Sat night in wishing him well on all his future endeavors ⚜️

This drink was created by Zac Sorensen and is featured in Session Cocktails, written by the editors of Punch.
One of the primary ingredients in this cocktail is an American pale ale. We have chosen to use the Humidity Pale Ale from Fullsteam (an excellent brewery based out of Durham, NC).

Try our Maple Cinnamon syrup in your morning coffee. You can thank us later. Hint: You can still say “Venti, two pumps” out loud, even when you’re making it at home.
This is a classic cocktail found in The Cocktail Book: A Sideboard Manual for Gentlemen, published in 1900. The drink is named for Rob Roy Macgregor, a Scottish outlaw. In the 1800’s, an operetta based on his life debuted in New York, and this cocktail was created nearby in the Waldorf Hotel.

a lil throwback to my first ever comp, in a new setting which rather fittingly is the place where my drink’s base spirit is brought to life...
A Ship Bound For India
60ml Pickering’s 1947
25ml masala syrup**
7ml extra dry vermouth
2ml Yellow Chartreuse
1 dash Peychauds bitters
I jittered my way through that presentation like a wee leaf. Pretty sure I forgot half of what I had to say and I lost out on my chance of a win because I didn’t think to tie my hair up (it was long at the time). Long story short... I still find comps terrifying but I’m less afraid. I still appreciate all they add to our industry. I still hate some of the aspects of em. I still LOVE hearing the creative storytelling they bring about. I definitely can’t stand the braggadocio they encourage, or the fact that the unknown bars of the world are not represented. More of the weirdos, please.
🌸 it’s super cool to be working at the bar neighbouring the @pickeringsgin
distillery and being able to bring this lil creation back to life. I spent so much time trying to consider every aspect of this drink so it’s lovely and fun getting stuck back into this liquid (Picks 1947) and remembering my beginnings.
** masala syrup: 1Tbsp cracked black pepper, 10 whole cloves, 16 cracked green cardamom pods, 1 cinnamon stick, 1 inch ginger root (peeled & roughly chopped), 1 whole star anise: steeped in boiled water for 30 mins, 1:1 with demerara sugar

Expect Magic, Swag... and copious amounts of Tequila... Responsibly of course! 🎩📿🎲🥃
This drink was created by Joaquín Simó in 2011, and is featured in the Death & Co cocktail book.
The most crucial ingredient here is the Campari infusion, made by combining the Italian apéritif with coffee beans and crumbled chili peppers for several hours. The result is one of the spiciest cocktail ingredients we have tasted. Mezcal is, of course, its natural companion, and the sweet vermouth balances the drink perfectly.

Just a little taste testing with @citizenmal
as we try to capture the flavors of the Philippines in a glass. 🍹 This one has purple yam, which gives it the lovely color, charred limes, coconut milk and rum.
