Probably the prettiest of flips we have made. But don’t let the pink full you, as the flavor passes on light and goes for bold. To avoid having a flat fruit 🍉 taste, we resorted to an Amaro, fortified wine 🍷, Luxardo and Vanilla combination to bring in the complexity on the back end. If we could change one thing, perhaps swap the portions of Mezcal and Reposado to bring a bit more smokiness 💨, as it gets subdued by the other ingredients. Will it drive you to go on a sex-fueled vacation? Possibly, but we don’t judge...

One of the go-to Apple brandies, this bottle from @lairdsapplejack is actually a blend. After enjoying this in a number of recipes, we were convinced to move onto the distiller’s 100 Proof Straight Apple Brandy. Don’t let the increase in alcohol content scare you, as the Straight Apple 🍎 takes the concept of this Applejack to another level. But, if trying to save a few dollars, the Applejack would make a fine introduction to Apple Brandy before stepping up to the real thing.

This exotic concoction will bring sea air and sunshine to even the dullest of parties, summoning a slice of island life with its energising fizz and fruity tropical flavour. Combining Ceylon Arrack with orange and lime juice, passion fruit syrup, orgeat and a good measure of ginger ale, Island Punch is the perfect party starter!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
50ml spice-infused Ceylon Arrack⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
25ml orange juice⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
25ml lime juice⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
10ml passion fruit syrup⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
100ml ginger ale⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Stir ingredients in mixing glass without ice. Pour over crushed ice into Collins glass. Pack more crushed ice on top, garnish with edible flower 🌺 🌸 and side-cut ginger inspired by @lettersandliquor
We’ve been dying to try a swizzle variant, but needed to hunt out some Falernum. The bartenders —@vice_and_virtue_oc and @colebattaglia — at @orangehilleats let us sample the Bitter Truth option and we were hooked. But, instead of rum, we then needed a gin, so figured the Bitter Truth #PinkGin would be a worthy pairing.
While we typically sip our cocktails, this one got pounded. Light, refreshing with the right amount of complexity. 😋

Thanks to Mary Jo for spending an afternoon with me taking photos of @mnpureclearice that is SO clear it’s almost not even there. (Note, it is *difficult* to take a photo of something that is barely there). After many hours of focusing on images of individual cubes, and as we were wrapping up, we had an idea to photograph a cocktail BEHIND the ice
This image was one of a couple she took in the span of a minute or two as @sjrhoffman (bless him) finished making dinner. Thankfully we have three other cube shapes to photograph in this style, which hopefully guarantees another afternoon with Mary Jo in the near future.

While attempting to come up with a drink Alexa alerted us that it was Johnny Appleseed day, with the fun fact that the trees he planted were better for ciders than eating. So, to honor the occasion, we came up with a wonderful flip 🥚 that we hoped would contain enough Apple notes to properly salute this individual. The end result was like a liquified Apple pie 🥧. The Orgeat even provides a crust-like flavor! Definitely will be making this one again.

I’ve been messing around with different Fizz variations lately: Ramos, Silver, Golden, Royal, Diamond, Sloe Gin, you name it. For those of you who don’t know, the Fizz category is a subset of the Sour category. A Fizz’s defining features are lemon or lime juice, sugar, spirit and some sort of carbonation (i.e club soda, champagne, beer). In my experience fizzes are typically served without ice and most guests will ask for egg white or in the case of a Royal Fizz, a whole egg. Different proportions are generally welcome with this drink in order to tailor it to your guests. The Fizz recipe is definitely open to interpretation and a fun template to riff off of. What will give you bragging rights amongst your peers is the height of the head/foam you can achieve without spillover. I’m calling this one the Robin Egg Fizz due it’s vibrant blue color 💎
- ROBIN EGG FIZZ -
1.5 oz @citadellegin
0.75 oz @giffardusa blue curaçao
0.5 oz 2:1 simple syrup
0.75 oz lemon
0.75 oz cream
1 egg white
• **Carefully break your egg and separate the whites into your large tin (save the yolks for pastry and house-made pasta or better yet - a Golden Fizz). Add the rest of the ingredients (except soda) to the small tin. Dry shake. Add ice. Shake again. When you think you’re done shaking, shake some more. Add about an ounce of club soda to the bottom of a chilled collins or fizz glass. Slowly double strain into the prepared glass. Let the head settle and achieve separation. Once the head is stiff carefully pour club soda down the middle of the drink to raise the head and give what I like to call the “Kid ‘N’ Play” effect. You can use the handle of a quality bar spoon to guide the soda into the drink without making a mess. No garnish, serve with straws 🌀•
