A little bee biology for your hump day🐪🐝
Social bees (like honeybees and bumblebees) are very interesting because they have developed castes within the sexes 🍯🌷
Speaking in the strictly biological sense, bees have two sexes: male and female.
Of course solitary bees have the two sexes as well, however they don’t develop such castes.
The genome of Queen bees and Worker bees is essentially the same, therefore it makes the development of this hive hierarchy very fascinating. 👑
-Male bees have giant 👀 so they can spot a potential Queen in flight
-Queen bees become 👑 by exclusively consuming royal jelly from birth (the other baby bees are only fed royal jelly for a few days)
