to when I had a Drag Birthday Party when I turned 24. It was a super fun party seeing my friends in various forms of drag, and I share this pic to remind all of us that we are not binary. What you can’t see in this pic is that I am wearing a short pink skirt and high heels. The top of me is obviously a tux (one that I rented for this party). I wanted to dress up non-binary. It was as much drag for me to wear a tux jacket as it was to wear a mini pink skirt and high heels. When we think of drag, sometimes we still think in terms of the binary when it’s actually not. Really, everything is drag. I agree with RuPaul that “We are all born naked and the rest is drag.” .
It’s not just our outward appearance that is nonbinary, but all of who we are, including our personality. We are not “feminine” or “masculine”, “good” or “bad”, “light” or “dark”. We are all nonbinary beings. We are soooo many things. We are complex. Humans are complex. Life is complex. We are not just one thing or one way.
I hope this helps you breathe a little easier knowing or being reminded that you are not binary. You are a whole, complex person. 💋✨
