Pt. 1 :
most folks don’t know how to respond to #mentalhealth
crises within their community and it’s fall bb’s, crises are on the riiiiiise.
I’m going to try to share some points over the next while that I’d like to open for discussion in order to encourage a discourse and to help raise awareness around how to care for yourself if you suffer, #showup
for your people (and probably as a coping mechanism for myself as I work through this). I am just one person so these are specifically related to conversations I have had and my personal experience w/ #bipolardisorder #depression
1. What it is:
Honestly I’m in it so deep, I don’t really know but what I can say is:
Depression is not just being #sad
Anxiety is not just feeling #stressed
They are full body experiences that can feel as debilitating as broken bones or organ failures. Symptoms for me include chronic exhaustion, feeling choked, hyperventilating, tearfulness, headaches and facial tension, light and noise sensitivity, disorientation, paranoia, self loathing and chest pain to name a few. It can change within a week a day or an hour all the while persisting over years. It takes a lot of resources that are difficult to access to really understand and treat each unique case around mental illness. You don’t see the problem so it’s difficult to recognize and the sufferers have worked hard to hide it because of how misunderstood and unwelcome mental illness is. Do some research, #talktopeople #getusedtoit
You cannot support anyone if you don’t first seek to understand what they’re going through.
Please discuss this in the comments, tell me if you think I’m wrong, add to this point, ask questions, #letstalkaboutit
I’ll keep adding points in post form as time and energy permits.
