As a recruiter, you need to have a great memory, just like an elephant of course! You need to have a great memory to remember candidate names, client names, remembering candidates’ availability, their salary expectations, times for interviews/dates etc. Equally, you need to remember the latest updates from your clients. Yes, we write most of this down/we have extensive recruitment software/CRM systems which supplement and remind us, however 9 times out of 10, a recruiter is thinking on their feet and using their fantastic memory at any given moment. Equally, a new role could come in and due to a recruiter’s amazing memory, they may know who would be a great fit for the role instantly, without even needing to consult their database! Our Director Leanne has been known to do this many many times!
Being well organised and managing your time well, ensuring every client and candidate is being provided the best service you can give is what it means to be an exceptional recruiter. Every candidate you are representing needs to feel like they are your only candidate. Even little things, such as if your candidate or client told you it was their Mum’s birthday party over the weekend, and remembering to ask them how it went on the Monday is always a nice touch. The finer details count!
