Bvlgari Tokyo part 2: the wines😻🤤🍷 •
When you get 2x 1.5 pours of 2005 Dom Pérignon Rose does that mean you overspent and the sommelier is taking pity on you or he really likes you?😂 No surprise here it was a wonderful rose, full of raspberries, strawberries and happiness. You could tell the bottle was opened a while ago, though.
Off to @ruinart
Brut Blanc de Blancs (no picture). A very nice, light non vintage intro to a wonderful dinner but not what I want to focus on.
Ok so now to the mains: the Italians! Starting off with Franco Terpin Collio Bianco 2000. A really interesting rare white blend (Tocai Friuliano/Pinot Grigio/Sauvignon/Chardonnay) from northern Italy. A beautiful orange/gold color like what you’d find in original whites. Very fruity and alive. Not something you see every day and requires getting used to but went brilliantly with the carpaccio!
Next we’re going south to the beatiful Amalfi Coast to try @cantine_marisa_cuomo
another rare blend of Ripolo/Fenile/Ginestra. An enchanting combination of apricot, tropical fruits, lemon and honey tells you straight away it was made in a warmer climate than the previous white. Very gentle and subtle paired brilliantly with the rigatoni w/ zucchini.
Moving even more south to magical Sicily we get @donnafugatawine
Nero d’Avola! And oh man do you feel like Don Corleone sipping this very complex, deep and intensive red full of leather, red berries, coffee, dark chocolate, spice and everything else you’d expect from a perfect full bodied red to enjoy with a piece of beef that probably led a better life than you judging by how soft it was.
Time to finish this extraordinary journey through Italy in Tuscany with a sip of Fontodi’s Sangiovese/Malvasia dessert blend. Apparently the history of this amber colored beauty dates all the way back to the 14th century! This is a perfect companion for a delicious bitter chocolate cake, overflowing with honey, dried raisins, fruits, caramel and a bit of nuts.
