Featured: “My submission was inspired by multiple things. One of the most inspiring things are the things around me. I live in Crescent City, California. I moved here last October and honestly I hated most of this small, secluded coastal city. But the only things I really like are the ocean being so near, the secrets it holds, creatures that live and lurk there, amaze me. I also live very close to some of the tallest trees in the world, the redwoods, tall beasts peering over our every action. yet some don't see the beauty in these things and destroy their beauty. There are countless people and organizations that mistreat the world around us. The redwood in my drawing is broken much like nature around us. And the octopus represents those of us that can stop this, put the pieces back together. We can light the way for others too, as shows the lighthouse. So we can start with where we live, the crabbing boats, that's where I live, those are constantly reminding me of Crescent City. Crescent City, a small but hidden gem, the inspiration for my piece, Lost at Sea, much like we are.” -Calissa Chapa
