Happy Monday. This week, I am going to share more about the story of how our home came to be as it is. From Monday through Friday, I’ll address these five topics:
*Why we moved to Fort Collins
*How we chose our house
*How we approached renovating our house
*What we have completed and what we have yet to do in our renovation
*What we enjoy about living in this house and this city ——————————
Today, I’ll tell you about why we moved to Fort Collins.
Early in our relationship, we agreed that we wanted eventually to live among the western mountains. I am from Indiana, and he grew up near Washington, D.C., but I’d spent significant time in Wyoming and Colorado, and we quickly learned that we loved being in the mountains together.
Following our October 2016 wedding, we took a month-long road trip through the mountainous western states to survey options for our eventual home, stopping in every city that interested us. We did not make a decision on that trip, but we collected good data. A few months later, an educational opportunity helped us to make the decision, guiding us to Fort Collins. Beyond that reason, we loved Fort Collins for its walkability, its natural beauty, its friendly and relaxed culture, and its proximity to the mountains.
We began to hunt for a house and immediately found one that we loved and which was an easy mile’s walk from campus. And within a month of that, we’d moved from our apartment in the D.C. area to this, our new home.
