"A mind that is stretched by new experience can never go back to its old dimensions".
I recently took a wonderful trip to see parts of the world I had never seen before. For which I’m immensely grateful. Going to Kenya and traveling around this beautiful country has been quite the experience. It's lush beauty, beaches and wildlife has feed my soul in a way that I can't ever truly put into words. However, before I left on this trip I was so overwhelmed. ➖
I had a ton of projects piling up at work, mommy and family duties at home, and a calendar that was packed with overdue tasks. You see, I grew up believing that the more you sacrifice, the bigger the reward. So to make room for all this stuff I had going on, I figured pushing myself to the point of exhaustion had to pay off. I stopped going to the gym as much, forget about my social life entirely, and sacrificed proper sleep. ➖
When it came time to planning this vacation every piece of me was screaming, “Let’s postpone this! I can’t leave work for so long, not right now!” but despite all that I silenced that voice because deep down, I knew this vacation was needed.
For me, fatigue and stress were the reasons I needed to use my vacation time to recharge and relax. But all of us have different reasons for needing a break. Simply put, making self care a priority is not a luxury; its a necessity for a well-balanced, healthy life. It's as necessary as eating well, getting exercise or sleeping. Taking a break from everyday life is so vitally important for our health and mental well-being. So please, block some time out on your calendar for self care and do everything you can to defend that time, for it is essential to your health.
