My thoughts on Black Lagoon.
This Blu-ray combination collection was on a special, and I thought it looked cool. So, I bought it. Without any preconceptions of what it was, I had begun the series without expectations; and, although the first episode didn't interest me much (there was a sequence that involved synonymous yelling for comedy) after a few episodes, I was interested. Very interested, in fact. Not just because of the action or adult themes, but because of the dynamic between the two protagonists of the show. I was very interested in their characters. Additionally: the drama became better as it went on, and the episodic stories were increasingly entertaining (Roberta was very cool.)
I will diverge and mention that the closing titles sequence is probably the most creative -- and my favourite -- closing credits sequence that I have seen in an anime yet. Sure, I would rather watch, say, Dragon Ball's closing because I like the song, but the credits here feel and look very cinematic and, in some way, tells you who Revy is. It's simply Revy walking (on a beach, I think), we see only her lower half, as she drops her weapons into the sand, with a melancholy orchestral track to accompany it. It's well done. I love sequences that are done that way.
The final arc of the show was my favourite. It felt like something was really brewing up, if you catch my drift. By the moment it was over, I wanted more, because I like the lead characters and their relationship, and would like to see more development between them. I hear the manga will be continued, so that's good; and I haven't seen the OVA. I do feel that for 24 episodes, they told the story that they wanted to tell -- again, I would like to see more for the sake of further developing the lead characters, because I do find them interesting.
I watched the English dub, and it suits it well, in my opinion, especially with dialogue. .
It is definitely worth watching.
