We made it! 😊 9 provinces, 117 days & over 18,000km explored from Cape Spear, NL to Mile 0, BC! As per my usual introverted ways, I failed to post during the last half of our journey, preferring to sink fully into the experience, without the pressure of social media. I love social media, but for my own wellbeing I do need to pull back once in a while. ✌ . So what now? Well, we've been hanging out with family in the Vancouver area and were lucky enough to secure a house & cat sitting gig for the months of Nov, Dec & Jan. “I am so tired of not feeling good about myself....”. SO what's the point of THIS 5 week challenge? It’s not to lose as much weight as possible as quickly as possible. Instead, the point of OUR FALL 5 is to focus on creating quality habits and accomplishing small goals. When you can do this consistently and sustainably in those five weeks, you build up something within you...it's this thing called momentum and it truly is the 'magic pill' to success. When this begins to happen suddenly the once impossible's develop small glistens of hope and faith in ones own ability to achieve and succeed. By breaking cycles down into SHORT TERM increments you take away from the debilitating idea of the work ahead over the next umpteen days/months/years and rather focus on the achievable tasks of THIS day. When you begin to string together multiple days/weeks of SUSTAINABLE success suddenly these new habits become just everyday normal life. Mandy trained 4x a week with 30 minute workouts. She balanced being a wife, mother, full time nurse and most importantly taking care of herself. She didn’t always have time so instead she made time. She established a support circle with her friends who in turn she inspired to make lifestyle choices for their own journey. She never missed a session, showed up, stepped up and left stronger than she started. On days she found it easier to give up, she reminded herself to just show up knowing she wouldn’t regret it. At week 3 of her 5 she enjoyed a girls night of that included cocktails and a not so ‘diet’ friendly meal. Typically this kind of night would have caused an immense amount of anxiety and resulted in feelings of failure spiralling into a whirl wind of self sabotage. However, together we game planned for the night coming up with constant affirmation that LIFE is still going to happen regardless and you decide whether you live it or lose out on moments in it. It was that night she commented “I went out for the night and felt beautiful”. Celebrating my Moms 75th Birthday today! I cherish each one that we get to see!! I make her one of her favourite dishes, from scratch, no matter what it is!! ( with a healthy spin of course- but she can never tell 😉!!) Today I’ve made her homemade Donairs with 100% local organic grass fed beef, and of course an awesome vegan option of portobello mushroom gyros! All sauces are from scratch and made with love and wholesome ingredients!! The CAKE 🎂 is always the big favourite though and this year she wanted chocolate and mint! I’m sneaky and made it vegan, gluten free and refined sugar free! I can’t wait to cut into it and dive in with a hot cup of tea!!

Have you ever heard/ tried delicata squash? It is a variety of winter squash characterized by its “delicate” rind. So delicious and an easy squash to make as it’s not as tough to slice as some of the other squashes that contain tougher peels. A few reasons I love it are due to its’ high fibre content (you can eat the peel!), high in vitamin A, and even though it is a starchy veggie, it is lower in carbs than some other squash/ potato varieties (for those that need to monitor their carb intake). To make delicata squash, wash/ scrub the squash well and cut off the ends. Slice the squash in half (the long way). Scoop out the seeds with a spoon. Cut into thin pieces (half moon shapes). Drizzle with avocado oil and season with sea salt and black pepper. When baking this today I added cinnamon and turmeric as well for a nice change ! Bake it at 425 F for about 20-30 minutes, or until they’re as crispy as you’d like ! 😋🧡
Sunday lunches are my absolute favourite! I prefer having larger meals during the day and keeping dinner light & right. But most importantly I love having the whole family sitting around the table, some of us in pjs, some of us in dressed - all of us laughing and chatting about seemingly meaningless things. . . All of our plates are slightly different, but this is one meal that we can all enjoy. One of us (👧🏼) is already eating but it’s all about the same. Let’s take a moment to talk about something that gets brushed off as if it’s no big deal. ACNE😧 Acne is something most teenagers deal with while hitting puberty, but some of us are lucky enough to deal with adult acne!🙃This is a picture of my face 2 years ago. It started with a few break outs on my forehead and eventually blew up into full blown cystic acne. My acne journey was anything but easy but it sure did teach me many valuable life lessons. Something a lot of people that haven’t dealt with acne don’t understand is how hard it is to deal with it. It’s not as simple as washing your face, drinking lots of water and not wearing make up. Acne can be caused by all sorts of internal and external insults to the body. I’m not sure what exactly caused my acne but it started to appear about 4 months after I went vegan. I think it was a mixture between changing my diet, my body detoxing & eating foods that my body couldn’t handle😥Our bodies use our skin as a last resort when it comes to toxins, so if we aren’t properly eliminating toxins in the body, it’ll show up on our skin. My diet was awful for YEARS before I changed my lifestyle and once I started getting acne I noticed certain foods made my skin flare up/break out. I would wear HEAVY full coverage foundation to cover up all of my spots. I knew the make up was making my skin worse because it was clogging my pores & exposing my skin to a ton of chemicals but I was so embarrassed of my skin. My acne caused such bad anxiety to the point where it was hard for me to even go in public with a bare face. Acne taught me to accept myself as I am, flaws and all, to accept others, not to judge a book by its cover, to love myself as I am & to listen to my body regardless of what society thinks. I switched my foundation to an all natural mineral powder, changed a few things in my diet and even today I still get break outs but not nearly as bad. Just a friendly reminder that even those who have a good diet, take care of themselves and are clean can still have a face full of cystic acne. Be kind, don’t make someone feel dirty or ugly for having acne.✨❤️
Hello my foodie friends! Happy Thursday🌻 I moved some furniture around last night and made myself a little meditation/yoga space. I put my plants, fountain, salt lamp, crystals, horoscope calendar, books and yoga mat in this area of my room and boy am I feeling ZEN AF✨ I’ve never been one to do yoga, only here and there but I really want to learn & incorporate it into my daily routine. I do a lot of breath work with my chiropractor & her studio is very chill and has a similar vibe, so I thought why not create the same vibe and work with my body and my breath at home too? Yoga is great for relaxation, flexibility, learning how to listen to your body, stress relief, exercise, BREATHING properly, and just becoming aware of what’s going on with your body. I’m excited to see where this little journey will take me. So far I’m loving this little spot in my room and I encourage whoever is reading this to create a little space in their room/house to go to for relaxation🙏🏼
I was cleaning my room today and came across some of my old poems that I wrote about 3 years ago when I was in the midst of what seemed like the most chaotic time in my life. I found this poem and it made me smile. “Starting not to feel alone, starting to make myself at home. Times have changed and so have I. Starting to spread my wings and fly. My skin is thicker, I am no longer weak. For it was help I had started to seek. The clouds have vanished, the sun has appeared. My thoughts are no longer blurry, they’re becoming clear. Slowly getting my head in straight. Not sure if this was luck, or fate. In order to love your life you have to love yourself. Start taking care of your mental and physical health. If you are stuck in a dark place and can’t get out, reach for your loved ones, they’re there to help. I want you to know that you are loved, down on earth and up above”✨

I shed so many tears on my walk home.. SELF CARE✨ It’s so important to take care of yourself when you’re going through a rough patch. So many people will let whatever is happening to them CONSUME them. It’s important to flow with what is happening and not neglect your health (mental or physical). I know first hand how hard it is to eat healthy, get exercise and take care of myself when I’m sad. I’ll be honest, my room is a mess, I haven’t been caring about what I’ve been eating & I’ve been going to bed super late and waking up super late. This is all a result of what has been going on in my life. I get to a point where I’ll wake up and say “what are we doing? Why am I neglecting my health and well-being simply because I’m sad and something bad had happened?” In times like these we should be taking care of ourselves the most! As hard as it is, our bodies need love and we need to be our own best friends and pick ourselves back up when we’ve been kicked down. I’m starting my day off with positive intentions and a smoothie & I’m going to make today a good one! I’m done with this mopey state of mind. From this day forward I’m jumping back into my self care routine and I’m going to pick myself back up💓 Happy Friday my foodie friends, make today a good one✨
Hello my foodie friends! Happy hump day 🐪 Life has been a bit challenging for me lately, hence my lack of posts but here’s a nice pic of my raspberries, blackberries & grapes. Life update: I quit my job of 5 years on Saturday, my cat that I’ve had for 13 years passed away yesterday and I’m currently trying to adapt to these huge shifts in my life. My cat peed on my bed before he passed so I couldn’t sleep in my bed the night he passed away and I’ve been sleeping on memory foam (which hurts my back). My other cat was his litter mate so I have to comfort my grieving kitty because this is their first time being separated.. EVER! I have giant bags under my eyes from lack of sleep, crying and overthinking everything that’s been happening but I feel at peace. I don’t feel anxious, I don’t feel scared, I feel ready to tackle this new chapter in my life. Here’s to new beginnings and turning the page of a very long chapter in my life. Wishing everyone a lovely rest of their week and sending good vibes across the globe to anyone and everyone reading this. Keep growing, keep morphing, keep evolving. There so much more to come✨🍇

I’ve been really hard on myself lately and been feeling down for the past few weeks. I often forget how far I’ve come in the last 3 years but I’ve been reminiscing and remembering where I was and how I got to where I am today and that usually helps to give me hope when I feel down. I used to be so depressed I would feel lonely no matter who I was with. I used to be on antidepressants and antipsychotics. I used to use junk food as a coping mechanism and binge eat to drown my sorrows. For a month straight I would stay in bed until 4:00 pm and only get out of bed only for food and to use the bathroom. I would drink away my pain, smoke away my pain, eat away my pain but nothing ever truly made the pain go away. I AM THE ONE that had to dig deep and get to the root of my issues instead of trying to cover them up, instead of using unhealthy coping mechanisms and telling myself that it didn’t matter what I did to my body because I hated myself anyways. I changed my diet, changed my lifestyle, overcame severe social anxiety and driving anxiety, I chose to get off of my medications, I changed my coping mechanisms from unhealthy to healthy ones, I ended bad relationships, I got professional help, I finished school and went into my exam with 80%, I DID ALL OF THIS. I cannot expect things to get better unless I make a change. It’s hard to remember that life doesn’t get better on its own & on days like these I’ve had to remind myself of this quite often. I’m not ashamed of where I’ve been and what I’ve done. I am damn proud of the things I’ve overcome and if you’re having a hard time or feeling like there’s no hope, just remember you have the power to turn your life around. Your mindset, your willpower, your ability to change certain aspects of your life that are no longer serving you, anything. If I have advice for anyone (including myself) it would be, don’t expect others to fix you, don’t expect anyone to get help for you because in the end everything starts and ends with you.
Went to see 3 different waterfalls today and hiked for 2 hours! I love soaking up all of these negative ions while the sun shines on my skin!!🌞🌿

Did you go for a walk today? We did!🐶 Did you know.. walking improves cardiac health, can alleviate depression and fatigue by boosting serotonin production in the brain, creates less stress on joints and reduces pain, can help with weight management, improves circulation and supports stronger bones and improved balance? It’s also very important to take furry friends along with you to ensure they’re getting lots of exercise😁 my dog ends up getting bored throughout the day because everyone works so I make sure to take him for at least 2 walks a day! Walking became a drug for me when I was battling depression a few years ago and I stopped turning to unhealthy coping mechanisms and ended up walking about 2-3 times a day for hours!!! I felt amazing and still do because walking is so important to me. It’s also good to get out in the grass, play with your pups and ground with the earth. I always find myself so present and so happy when I’m playing in the park with my Leroy🐶🌱🌳💚

It’s always a good idea to have a goal set for the day, even if it’s something as small as making your bed! You’ll still feel as though you’ve accomplished something and it’ll make you feel good about yourself. I’ve also been trying to start off my days with a positive affirmation. Positive affirmations are so important, especially in a world full of negativity, it’s always beneficial to give yourself a boost. Today my affirmation is “I am strong, I am healthy and I am capable of doing anything I put my mind to.” If you say a positive affirmation to yourself everyday (even if you don’t believe it) you’ll eventually start to believe it because it’ll be stuck in your subconscious! Which is also why negative affirmations such as “I’m stupid, I’ll never be able to do this” aren’t beneficial because they literally become stuck in our subconscious and we start to believe them! So today, try starting your week off with a positive affirmation and set a small goal for yourself☺️✨

Dry brushing✨ What it is and why do it? I bought my dry brush from Purdy Natural & it’s one for sensitive skin (because I didn’t want to jump right into using a regular dry brush and hurt my skin!) I use circular motions and go over the same spot 2-3 times. It’s best to dry bush before showering, but I know some people that dry brush after a shower too! ** PSA😃 I think I’m going to start incorporating more posts that aren’t food related!😮I also want to talk about life and health outside of food. Of course food is so important to me and I’ve overcome some nasty habits that I had formed in my early childhood (binge eating, never eating anything healthy, shovelling food into my face to the point where I actually threw up because my stomach couldn’t handle how fast/how much I was eating at a time)😥I’ve become stronger, more educated, healthier and happier since April of 2015 when I decided to completely change my lifestyle.💪🏼 I’m going to start posting about real life situations as well as tips/tricks/products that I use in my everyday life.😊For those of you that don’t know me, I never used to be into anything holistic... I’ve just recently switched to an all natural lifestyle 2 years ago. It doesn’t just stop at food either, I basically use all natural everything! All of my products I use from skincare, to make up to shampoo & soap are all natural! I was just sick and tired of seeing a thousand chemicals/words I can’t pronounce in my everyday products.😒 So stay tuned (I might take a while to get posting regularly until I finish my exam in August) I will be posting lots once I’m finished my studies and become an R.H.N! 🌞✨
Hello my lovely foodie friends🌱✨ I’ve been taking little breaks from social media to try and focus on studying! But I thought I’d check back in and share what I had for dinner tonight😇 I’ve been really slacking with groceries lately so I’ve just been throwing meals together with what I have at home!😜 I just cooked up some red onion, mushrooms, local green pepper, 1 clove of garlic and mixed beans in coconut oil over medium heat in my cast iron pan, topped with Himalayan pink salt!😍 so simple but so good. I was going to make a salad instead but ended up cooking up this stir fry.... does anyone else just throw random things together and make something yummy?😂 hope everyone has had an awesome week! Good morning foodie friends!🌞 Sorry for the lack of posts over the last month. I’ve been taking breaks from social media for my own wellbeing!
