Tuesday mornings are my most important training day of the week. Since my guru, @jeffwink
helped identify my weaknesses, my Tuesday morning interval workout is the key ingredient to a successful race season.
Today, however, it felt like the forces of the Universe were conspiring against me: a sick child meant I would miss my scheduled training ride with my partner (having a training partner always helps!) combined with a busy work schedule meant that it would have been too easy to make excuses and miss the training session. I refused to let that happen. Maybe I wasn’t parenting at an ‘A’ level and I’ve never let work interfere with ‘life’. Some may say selfish. I say committed. With my 50th birthday exactly six-months away and race season right around the corner, I made it happen. Solo. Yes, it was hard. Yes, I wanted to throw in the towel half way through the workout. Yes, the rest of my day may be a little stressful as I still try to keep all other commitments. BUT, I got my workout in. I may not win many races next season. I may not win ANY races next season. But I’ll pin on my race number and stand at the start line confident, knowing that I did all I could to prepare and no one outworked me.
