Seki Burger from Beach Road Deli, 5 Beach Road, Paekakariki.
Seki Spit roast pork, crackling, rukau (cooked taro leaves), coconut cream and mainaise pickle in a yellow bun, with tao, maniota and kumara “Island” fries.
Finalists for the last two years, Beach Road Deli put this one up as the “ultimate party burger” . We’d heard great things about last years Hangi Burger, so off we headed on a fine Saturday to Paekakariki (not our usual stomping ground) This. Burger. Was. Amazing. The pork was perfectly roasted, well seasoned and tender, and the little nuggets of crackling tucked inside the soft bun added wonderful texture and little bursts of that hot salty unhealthy goodness we all crave, The richness of all this porky goodness was well balanced by a beetroot mainisise pickle, and the fries….? Crunchy, soft on the inside, just enough salt and a sweetness from the range of pacifica vegetables used. The only negative was that we were foolish enough to go halfsies on this burger in a effort to be “healthy” – and I wanted more! This one’s definitely a keeper for the mainstream menu. Nice work Beach Road Deli!
