Cistus, Honey Rose 💛🌹 It is believed that Cistus is the biblical Rose of Sharon, or rock rose as some may call it. It is usually referred to in a metaphorical sense as it could actually refer to any flower that grows well in unfavorable circumstances. It has been said that the “Rose of Sharon” first appeared in the 1611 King James Version of the Bible. It is only mentioned in Song of Solomon 2:1, “I am a Rose of Sharon, the lily of the valleys. “ This rose smells slightly like honey, sweet and soft.
It is rumored that this gum of this plant was discovered by shepherds who tried to remove it from sheep and goats’ hair. They noticed their hands recovered quicker than normal when they rubbed their hands in it. Although there are not many Scriptural references to this plant, it is still a worthy essential oil.
The sweet honey scent makes it an excellent choice for creating perfumes or custom lotions. It is a complex plant with several compounds, the highest being monoterpenes, making it an ideal choice for use with our immune and cellular systems. When diffused, the scent elevates mood and soothes nervous energy. Topically, it supports bone movement and skin health.
