Synchronicity. I had to do a bit of a double take to even realize there's two of us running. Absolutely fantastic camera work from Dave Mallari to capture myself and @tiborhorvath629 running down Beach Avenue in near perfect unison at the SeaWheeze Half Marathon this past weekend. It's the moments like this that make you forget the rain. Competitive only to ourselves, the rhythmic foot strike and general banter keeping us motivated on the road ahead as we will eachother towards our goals. My favorite sessions with Trainer are when we do speed and agility/footwork drills like this morning. (In another life, I was a 6’0, 200 pd. free safety in the NFL.) So to me the drills are just fun, but they are also a sneaky way to build ankle stability and - in this video - keep my hips straight while hopping over the cones, which I was unable to do. Both make me a stronger and more efficient runner. Lots to improve on, but we are just starting up again. Exactly two weeks ago I told y’all about two axioms I live by in running: (1) If a hill has a name, it has earned that name for a reason (2) If a workout has a name, more than likely it’s a tough workout. What happens when you combine both? That’s a question we answered tonight with the @powermilers. • While we don’t have any hills to speak of in New Orleans, we do have bridges that are the closest thing to elevation change and when we are told to do a 3.5-mile warm up from the track, out to the Bayou St. John Bridge for the workout, we know it’s time to hustle. And hustle we did with the Moneghetti Fartlek. If you missed it the last time we did it, the Moneghetti Fartlek consists of 14 continuous minutes alternating between 5K pace and marathon pace at 90 second intervals, 60 second intervals, 30 second intervals and then finally 15 second intervals, which are all-out effort. • That workout had no business feeling as good as it did, based on how tough the first time we did it felt and that we added elevation into the mix. Yet, there I was, mowing through intervals that felt faster than last time (Even though they were the same length). Lounging outdoors: my favorite activity. ————————————- June 2017 I discovered ultra running and wanted to get into hardrock or western states. I realized that those races required qualifiers and years of waiting to get in. So naturally I looked up the closest qualifier race to me, and it was grindstone 100. So over a year has passed and on the week before the race, I am realizing that getting into hardrock or doing grindstone isn’t as big of a deal as I once wanted it to be. It will be fun, but it won’t be the highlight of my year. What is more of appealing is what I am doing in this picture: enjoying the view ————————————- Why should I wait years to get into a race when I can go out and do my own thing whenever I want? It was awesome just adventuring around zion and finding an overlook and just hanging out. I’ve done the same in the Shenandoah. I wonder how many ultra runners have these thoughts?? So once I finish grindstone, it’s back to fast packing. I’m dying to fast pack the AT section of SNP or knock out 2 days of running in the smokies. Or get in the car and drive for 10 hours to New Hampshire to bag some peaks. ————————————- TL;DR: fast packing and FKTs are on my to do list following Grindstone 100. But maybe I’ll catch the race bug, who knows?? I decided to push myself a little tonight and I actually enjoyed it! I haven’t really felt like going fast since the marathon, but tonight I felt like I got a little bit of my speed back! . 5.4 miles at 7:29 pace. . I think I ran a little faster because I’m super excited about going to Disney tomorrow!!

Tempo Tuesday: TEMPO: 4 Miles @ 7:03 Pace  SPLITS:: {7:48, 6:59, 6:46, 6:37} TIME: 52:46 MILES: 7 PACE: 7:30 . Took a longer break to do a speed workout before school! I am not going to lie and was definitely motivated by strava’s dethroned email alerts, but apparently I can’t find the routes I was dethroned! I’m so happy with this speed workout and am getting excited that Revel is just around the corner. Except that means tapering is coming too, no just no, I get taper crazies so bad🙈🙈! "When someone tells you it can't be done, it is more of a reflection of their limitations, not yours." . . Toss-back Tuesday!? This deserves it!. . Last THURSDAY was magical. I ran a 6mi tempo (8:12, 8:04, 7:57, 8:15, 8:07, 8:20) and then joined @heartbreakrunco for a 1mi fundraiser race called the #adriannestrongmile in honor of @adriannehaslet - and this girl is so strong!. . Her running journey began at the Boston Marathon finish line during the 2013 bombings and it now continues across the world to not only bring prosthetics to children in need but to also inspire people to not let mobility (or really anything) define their limits. . Was so honored to chat with her during our warm-up and meet an awesome new running buddy @yo_adriennnnnne here too. At that point, I was unsure if I was actually going to race the event; but, once we lined up, I knew I would give nothing less than everything I had! Thanks @tuanh89 and everyone else for the encouragement! Ran a 6:47 - the fastest full mile I've run since last September (PR 6:40, so far) Thought I was going to die... then was perfectly fine after. Aka lessons learned! 😂🎉🏃‍♀️. . It's a GIFT to be able to run and I hope I can share that with YOU like this event did for me!. . (see previous post) TOTAL = 52 miles • Highest mileage week of training yet for more miles & confidence added to the marathon bank! This week will include a little more recovery at the beginning of the week to account for Sunday’s race. Remember that not every training has to/should look the same! Such a long and busy day. After work I took Nika to her checkup (she’s gained 4 pounds in two weeks) and then went to @rhinohybrid for Small Group. Check out those killer single leg hops down the turf. Those hurt. Two times down and back with both legs. I then headed out for a run in the heat and I started to have flashbacks from Sunday’s disaster. I stopped the first time to catch Pokémon and then I ran a half mile and stopped again. I then gave myself a little talk....it went like this “what the fuck are you stopping for?? Your legs aren’t broke. What, are you tired? So what. Move your legs and don’t stop until you’re done.” Guess what?? It worked. I then ran 4 more miles without stopping and I was fine. Happy Tuesday! Today I shared in my stories that I feel as I’ve reached a new breakthrough in regard to food & eating-here’s a square sized glimpse. My relationship with food story is really long. I’ve touched on it here & there- obese child/teen-> eating disorder-> many different forms of controlled eating-> spending years finding a good place. 😌 . These two quotes from @runwhole.nutrition smacked me in the face: . 1️⃣ Eating disorder recovery...is about freeing up your brain space so that you can fill it with new life-giving things. It’s about cultivating a meaningful life outside of the micromanagement of food. . 2️⃣ You are here for so much more than a life full of chronic dieting. . There are many tools to help people with their health & fitness journeys. The ability to look at a tool and say ‘you’re no longer working for me’ is an important one. Needless to say, I had to put a lot of tools away that were no longer serving me. 🔨 . My body can run a marathon. My body is strong. My body grew two humans. And I am more than just my body. I’m working on filling my brain space with life giving things & I’m filling my time with all the things that light me up. 💃🏽 . . The face of a girl who just crushed her track workout - 1 mile w/u, 3x1600m, 1 mile c/d. 1600m paces = 6:57, 6:48, 6:47 with 1:30 rest in-between 👊🏼 One of the biggest shifts I’ve made in my training for @runsra_cim is not worrying too much about pace - speed workouts are by effort and I’m hitting paces faster than I was at my peak in my last training cycle when I had times I “needed” to hit. I’m also not necessarily doing speed every week - sometimes my legs just need some extra rest, like after the @nafhalf , so I kept the miles relatively easy last week. Truly listening to myself - both physically and mentally, and taking off any pressure, has been a pretty amazing feeling 🤗 I’m still putting in the hard work and the miles, it just looks different this time around, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it helps me grow as a runner (and a coach) 💪🏼💪🏼 #marathontraining #cimtraining #tracktuesday

I was thinking I may just run easy since I was still a little sore from my 20 miler on Sunday, and wasn’t sure my lungs would cooperate! Well, I ran the warm up and felt pretty good, so i just went for it! 2.5 mile warm up, 8 x 800m w/1:30 rest, I ran 2:58, 2:57, 2:58, 2:57, 2:57, 2:58, 2:57, 2:56. My legs felt a little fatigue, but I COULD BREATHE!! Yay! No more inhaler either ! What a roller coaster the past few weeks have been! 2 weeks ago I could barely make it 200m and had to stop to catch my breath. I had lost hope missing 2 weeks of training for Chicago, but after the last few days, I’m definitely running it!! I may not be in my best shape but I at least have some confidence that I can run it and have fun! If the weather is good, who knows! 🤷🏼‍♀️ So excited now! 12 days till I run my 12th Chicago marathon!!
