This year was my second time running the Pumpkin Pie 5k. 2017 results: 🔹25:46 (8:17min/miles) 🔹7/87 Age Group (45-49) 🔹78/1010 Women 🔹236/1575 OA I know these runs are only a 5K ...but I was proud of last year’s finish and thought that I killed it running a 8:17min/mile!!! I’m equally proud of this year’s run because it shows that my hard work And dedication has paid off. I never once thought that I could run greater than a 7:30min/mile (and sustain it) but I always wanted to. I usually have negative thoughts bouncing around my head when I’m racing (no matter the distance)—like “just stop and walk” “what’s the point?” “You suck”. Thankfully, that didn’t happen this past race. All I was thinking about was: “Run the first mile with your head👩🏻, the second with your focus 👀 and the third with your ❤️ ”. My attempt to keep up with the guy in the pink shirt failed but I never felt that I was tanking. The wind picked up and made it a bit difficult (for me)to run with my heart but I still pushed through. I feel that there’s still room for improvement and I’m thinking I need to work on my running form (see pic 🤭) This is a good segue into the CIM 2 man-marathon relay in a few weeks! !! !!! I guess I’m officially in taper time, but today sure didn’t feel like it. I followed my plan as it was laid out... except my paces were too fast. What do you do when your “easy” starts being close to what your “tempo” used to be? 😳😬🤦🏻‍♀️ I blame the fast half on Saturday and the cooler weather we’ve been having. 😉🤷🏻‍♀️ Glad @catroebuck met me for the tempo miles and let me chase her for them! 😂 . . I was reading this morning about how God takes us where we are and uses us for His purpose and His glory. The chapter was about business, but I think the message applies everywhere. I get frustrated that I’m not where I want to be, but I just need to keep putting in the work and sharing what I have learned to help others grow, too. Just because we don’t know HOW or WHEN we will get there, doesn’t mean we never sign up! It means, jump in, get a plan (and mentor), follow the guidance of those who have gone before you, and put in the work — for the glory of God! 🙌🏻 . . My story has seen a lot of setbacks. I’ve missed goals far too many times. I’ve wanted to quit. I’ve wanted to give into to other people’s advice to just do something else. But, then I wouldn’t be giving it my all. It’s funny how you can get up in the morning and feel tired and out of energy, but then when you get to the gym, turn on the music and squeeze that butt together you get an immidiate satisfaction in your body and renewed energy. The #merrymill is back and making treadmill running more fun than ever 😆🎅🎄! This was the single best decorating decision I’ve ever made 😜. So much fun every year! 3 holly jolly miles + a combo of lower body strength and back/bicep work (combining again due to lack of time this busy week!). I intended on running before my daughter got up today to get the run in first but it didn’t happen 😬. Body needed a little more rest 👌. Just happening later than planned but still making some progress here in weekly mileage! 👊
Whoop whoop whooperdie!!!!!. Wat was het brrrr koud vanochtend toen ik mijn zoontje naar school bracht op de fiets😐😐😐, toch besloten na thuis komst om toch maar ff een stukkie te gaan rennuhhh🤪🤪🤪. Had mij lekker warm aangekleed lange broek, thermoshirt met lange mouwen, jasje en handschoenen en een muts🙃🙃🙃. De temperatuur was 3 graden maar gevoelsmatig -2 😱😱😱. Gek genoeg had ik het niet zo koud als dat ik dacht dat ik het zou krijgen/hebben🤨🤨🤨 en heb zelfs gezweet in deze kou 🤣🤣🤣. Heb heerlijk gelopen en het voelde weer heerlijk om in deze temperaturen te rennuhhh in de polder🤪🤪🤪. Had alleen zoals altijd als ik deze route neem🤐🤐🤐 de trein tegen zowel op de heen weg als op de terug weg😫😫😫 en moest ik wachten wat ik best vervelend vind zekers op de terug weg want dan hoef ik nog maar ongeveer700meter😯😯😯. Whew, glad that’s done!! We spent a majority of the day yesterday moving furniture from house to house and I can barely stand up straight today 😬 And of course it’s my long run day 😳 I had originally planned to do this outside but when my alarm when off I said nope! I slept in for another 45 mins then up to the treadmill. I haven’t done a longer run in the ‘mill in a while and it honestly wasn’t too bad (although I am glad it’s a step back week and my long run was shorter 😉) I did 2 hours total, goal HR <140 except the last 45 mins. Stretching. Warm ups. Recovery. Foam rolling. Yoga. Cool downs. Epsom salt baths. Massages. Raise your hand if you're guilty of skipping this stuff. Too many of us skip some or all of this. I know. Because I'm right there with you. . But here's the truth: I'm almost always "injured", *somewhere*. And it sucks. . This could be an annoying little pain. It might inhibit my sport (bodybuilding now, but also running in the past). When it's bad enough it can even inhibit normal daily movement. . This comes from not *taking care of yourself*. From rushing into workouts too quickly and/or not spending a little extra time and effort moving in a way that helps our body heal from the harsh training we endure. . My current issue? This constant stabbing ache in my right neck/upper back. When I raise my arm above a certain level it sends pain all through my shoulder and tricep. Fun right? . NO. It's not. And if you're skipping your recovery or not warming up properly, odds are you've got some issues as well or will soon. . I don't know about you but the pain stops here. I'm committing to at least one day a week of extended foam rolling/stretching without training. I'm also committing to doing at last one small thing to aid in recovery daily. 10km of speedwork on the #treadmill this morning ✅ Avg pace 5:10/km Avg HR 151bpm. The workout was: 1km w/up 4 x 1 mile @ 7:38 (4:45/km) 4 x 400m jog recovery between Cool down to even 10km I'm happy with that run 🙌 I can feel my son's cold trying to take me down but I'm not going without a fight 💪 so, in an attempt to pretend I feel great and deny the virus it's power, I smashed out a great run. I also had a great sleep last night so I'm sure that's helping me in the battle 😊 A mum from school gave me an amazing tip that worked so well!!! She told me to put Vicks vapour rub on the bottom of my son's feet and cover with socks at bedtime. One of the good things about running is that you get warm even when it’s freezing outside. I went out for 8 k and then I went to the gym to do some leg training. Talk about faffing about. 4 years on from this post I went back to slimming world last week, again, and I’ve lost 2.5lb bringing my total loss to 2 stone 12lb. I’ve been on it 100% apart from one bottle of wine 🙈 so secretly hoped for more but looking over my food diary lots of days this week because of working so many nights I’ve only had 2 meals a day. I’m pleased to see this memory though to give me the kick up the ass I need. Not gonna lie, not running is not going well. It's been 4 days and I'm restless and cranky and irritable (you know-- *more* than usual) I have my 2019 training/racing season penciled out and am itching to get started! 8 miles before the chaos of Thanksgiving began. Today wasn’t an easy run. I wanted to run 10, then 9, but settled on 8 (bad pre-run time management). This will be my longest run before the @ymcamistletoerun. 8 miles is 5 less than a half-marathon. That feels like a lot of miles left to run. * The Performance Series Selangor 2018 * Distance: 21km (shorter actually) Ave. Pace: 8.03 Ave. HR: 161 Starting was good. Be able to mantain my pace for abt 15km since the route are quite flat. Unfortunately since I was so eager to do PB i ran faster than my pace and I didn’t manage to maintain my pace after KM15. Anyway I still manage to do PB 5min beyond my target. I have been sick 3 times this year requiring antibiotics. What. the. heck. I mean sure it has been a stressful year beyond the normal stress. And bad stress not good stress. (Yes, for me there is a BIG difference.) Still, the mental stress is putting too much wear and tear on my body and my major stress reliever, exercise, isn't doing the trick. So yesterday I recommitted to meditation. This was the quote that greeted me and it was exactly what I needed to hear. What about you? How do you relieve stress? Like really, really relieve stress?
Does a workout happen if you don’t share it on Facebook? Probably but...better not risk it. I know I should have been resting but all I want to do is lay down and all laying down does is make me cough. So...I’m just super sleepy. The one time today I didn’t cough and didn’t need cough drops was when I did 18 minutes of highly modified PiYo. No it’s not my official workout but who cares. The breathing was a good thing. Note this was my happy face many hours ago. Now I’m ready for sleep but alas I can’t lay down and will wait once again until sleep overtakes me while sitting up. The first training run after a race can be hard, but it felt good to loosen up my legs a little. I had to make myself run slower than I wanted to because I want my legs to recover. . 4.53 miles in 39:00. . I’m excited to head to Nebraska for Thanksgiving tomorrow! I’ll get to relax a little with my family and get some nice, easy recovery runs done with some new scenery.

After a tough week it was a HUGE relief to wake up with a totally different attitude ☺️ My mind has been so distracted with worry the past 7 days it’s been really hard to enjoy anything.
