Uncle Ernest 5 Minutes Before His Capture
Vincent Valdez, 2007
The glare in this gallery was really terrible and I struggled to get a good photo of the subject’s face, but unfortunately this is the best I could do.
In any case, Vincent Valdez is an exceptionally gifted artist who deals with themes of cultural frustration and definitions of identity and I strongly urge you to get to know the work of this super talented person.
A San Antonio native, he’s a graduate of Burbank H.S. and the Rhode Island School of Design. His pieces have been exhibited MFA Houston, LACMA, The National Portrait Gallery, The Blanton, as well as galleries internationally.
The Blanton at UT-Austin has recently acquired Mr. Valdez’s most recent piece, “The City”, and currently has it on display.
The San Antonio Museum of Art also has an extensive catalog of his work in its permanent collection with many works on display. I want to encourage all my Texas friends and family to visit these galleries and get to know his work
