Mission San Francisco de la Espada is one of the oldest structures in our city. It wasn’t just a church, it was a way of life. An agricultural center to help provide for the needs of the community. A place of hope where people could go to find help when they were in need. You can sense that when you walk onto its hallowed grounds. It just feels like a place of rest & peace. Definitely worth the drive out there, & Mission San Juan is just down the road too.
Mission Concepcion was the site of the Battle of Concepción, one of the first engagements of the Texas War for Independence on October 28,1835 led by Jim Bowie and James Fannin. The Mission Trails in San Antonio is a must see for anyone visiting the Texas Hill Country and Texas History lovers. These beautiful Spanish Colonial Catholic Churches were built in the 1700’s and many still hold services today. Take a trip to San Antonio this fall and see all of these beautiful old buildings.
