|| BACK TO SCHOOL ||
I wanted to make a funny meme about kids going back to school but it got me thinking -
Am I really THAT excited about him going back to school? Well yes, but no. The amount he’s grown this last 6 months is enough to make me cry. Happy tears because he is growing up to be such an amazing kid, but sad tears because he’s growing up. I am still coming to terms with the fact I’m a Mum to a 5 year old let alone a Mum to 4 beautiful boys.
Yes, for sure my house is loud & full of mess & chaos, but it’s also full of fun, laughter & love. This caring young boy, smitten with his brothers, this smart kid, learning how to read & write, learning Auslan, counting & using numbers, constantly asking questions (mostly about things that require an essay for an answer lol) but most of all his willingness to try new things, his want to learn more & more, his curiosity is constant.
The winter holidays are hard - it’s cold, rainy, it can be hard to find things to do. I purchased a heap of craft stuff for those days, I bought a few board games, I did everything in my power to keep all the boys busy.
Did I succeed? Probably not lol I found it frustrating, tiring, & man those boys can eat! But I think I’m going to miss him. I think the house will be much quieter & I won’t have to talk so loud and, I won’t be interrupted every 6 seconds. It’s just a reminder of how fast they actually grow. How fast time disappears. It reminds you of all the things you said you would do but didn’t. It reminds you that sometimes, even if you can’t be bothered, that you should do it. It might not be important to you, but it sure as hell is important to them. Most of the time it’s the little things like LEGO or play dough, or letting them make their own peanut butter sandwich (omg they take forever!). It’s just that reminder that they really are only this little for a short time. Next thing you know they will have finished high school, moved out, started a career, finished uni, traveled, settled down & started their own family.
Scary when you think about it •
