And yesterday was the once a year Standard Chartered Marathon. Completed my half marathon at 2h39min, 9 minutes away from my desired timing. Was initial a little disappointed but given my lack of weekly mileage, lack of cardio classes, natural progress of aging and over indulgence in freddo perhaps it's not too bad of an attempt. #selfconsolation
Been almost 2 years since my last half and this is an especially important one to understand my own pace, and solely my pace. My new pair of #underamour #hovrsonic
was good for short runs but felt especially heavy and caused discomfort in my toes after 10 klicks.
Being awake at such ungodly hour was not my favourite thing to do but there were interesting moments that kept me awake - many guys rushing to nearby bushes to relief upon flag off (not I humsap but just easily amused maybe), sights of old couple holding on together and strangers cheering for the runners.
My mental was drifting a lot after 7 klicks and the lack of sunlight was not doing me any good. Somehow, darkness and sunset often brings a sense of forebodingness in ways I can't describe.
At about 12 to 13 klicks, I was fortunate enough to run next to an uncle blasting gold ol' oldies by MLTR and Engelbert Humperdinck which brought me back to life. That and the sunrise worked like magic. (a sign that I can never do Sundown)
This is for me one of the better organized runs done by #scms
be it the route, wave segregated by estimated timing and the overall event management. Am glad I went for it.
