RAINY DAYS GOT DOGS LIKE ~ Three things you can do to help care for your dogs - and your sanity - during those loooong rainy days inside: 1. Take your dogs on a car ride, with the windows cracked down, even a little. Put on some good music (my dogs like #radiohead #pearljam @marqueswyatt
)Think of it more like a joyful jog out than a slushy slog about. Ideally, take your dogs somewhere that they can walk, run, or play, even just for a bit.
2. Braveheart it. Get on all of your rain gear, put on your smiliest #selfy
face, and go spend time outside - without pressuring your dogs to “hurry up”. I’ve worn a ridiculous rainproof outfit (complete with yellow snow goggles) and walked my dog in a torrential downpour for 45 minutes waiting for him to poop. Sometimes he did, sometimes he didn’t. But the more patient and pleasant I was about it, the less stressful it was for him. Nobody really wants to be pressured to go to the bathroom anyway, right?
3. Plan play dates with friends who have dogs who have houses that welcome other dogs. Play usually leads to drinking water. Drinking water often leads to peeing and pooping. Brooklin and I have five dogs, and they are much more likely to go outside when another has gone before them. 4. (BONUS) Bring them to #thezenyard
. We’ve got four outdoor yards and two indoor yards, towels, blankets, and a smiling staff. 5. (HIDDEN TRACK) Do things that are good for your peace of mind or stress release. The less stress I carry the less my dogs have to carry it for me. And always remember, it will pass, like the great flush of Nature. #rainydaydogs #therearenobaddogs #thezendog #thezendogla #wetandwild #howlingwolf #howlingdogs
