How does a de-shelled chilli crab sound? Although it felt a little odd to not have my hands stained with the chilli crab sauce and crack the shell by myself, but it was surely of much convenience to still enjoy one of our local favourite dishes in such a clean and neat manner! Pretty sure lazy eaters would appreciate this. 😄 🦀
Sitting right in the middle of a pool of luscious tangy chilli crab sauce is the real gem itself; a tower built of such sweet, juicy crab meat. The sauce was slightly spicy, pretty flavourful and fills your mouth with a really rich texture. 🦀
Pair with their unique mantous that come in the shape of long breadsticks instead of the usual pillow-shaped ones. Still as fluffy inside and crispy outside!

It may look like a deceptively simple cake (250g) but all I can say is that I savoured every single bite during the pre-launch media tasting! BEST eaten at room temperature or popped into the microwave to get that warm molten fondant chocolate centre flowing!

Another of those franchise that has expanded to the shores of Singapore, Honolulu Coffee Shop is known for their egg tarts and milk tea.
We each got ourselves an Egg Tart (HKD11), which was ultimately the most expensive one we had on our whole trip. From their takeaway bakery next door, our egg tarts came to us actually still hot and steaming.
With the classic Cantonese flaky crust, it was really buttery and enjoyable. The egg filling itself was subtly sweet and satisfying, though I still wished it could have been more sweet. Overall, the crust still managed to overpower the egg filling slightly, but I was willing to overlook that as the crust was actually very tasty, and the egg filling delightfully decadent and moist with a pudding-like texture.

Was feeling adventurous and ordered the Spicy Chasiu Ramen from @umaumasg
instead of their signature Uma Uma Ramen. Pretty satisfied with the meltingly tender chasiu and the rich, flavorful broth. Perhaps a tad salty.
and I had a fabulous sushi lunch today at Sushi Tou, a place we had never visited and certainly never realized is located just next door to our favorite katsu restaurant (Butagumi).
Lunch was fantastic for several reasons. Firstly, Chef Udatsu Hisashi serves up deliciously prepared fish with wonderfully seasoned shari. Second, prices are good, i.e. affordable. Thirdly, our baby boy (T3) slept peacefully through the entire meal. He nodded off in the Uber on the way to the sushiya and only woke up as we were walking to Omotesando after lunch.

for arranging our reservation.
Not sure if any of you have downloaded the Keyyes app. It's essentially a new lifestyle concierge service (in Asia). The superwife attended the launch recently and they generously gave she and I full access to the app's features. Which restaurant reservations in several cities, including Tokyo. For this current trip, they helped me secure three of the places we're visiting. And the process was, not to be too punny, easy-peasy Japanesey. 😊
Keyyes also has some great wines at very good prices on the app. I've also taken advantage of this service, which I have to admit, is dangerous for someone like me, an avid online shopper who is easily swayed by a good deal.

bad news bears: man man unagi restaurant’s standards has fallen. In terms of its flavour, the caramelised char & natural flavours of the kabayaki & shirayaki respectively is still amazing and i seriously love it. and one of the huge winning factor of man man for me would have to be the wasabi root. No unagi restaurant does this like them and im a huge fan of some freshly grated wasabi. BUT unfortunately the unagi has lost its “melt-in-your-mouth” sensation, though the eel is still tender, just unlike before. the bones that were never bothersome appear to be more prominent as i was eating. Lastly, the major issue of the entire meal was the chewy, rubbery eel skin. i found myself struggling to separate the unagi meat, when in my past visits all you need was your chopsticks and it would break apart so easily. It’s because of this that the overall mouth feel when consuming the unagi can be less pleasant with the “niam niam” chewy texture of the skin and you find it occasionally getting stuck to your teeth.
TLDR: not as good as before, but overall flavour is still good. not worth queueing so long though.
