Do you feel far away from God in this season of depression?
We’ve discussed how God has created us fearfully and wonderfully, how hope is never lost in depression because God is doing something, and how despair and demons tempt us with suicide but God gently whispers that He is there, reminding us of His love for us at the cross.
Rose, just because you feel far away from God doesn’t mean He has moved at all. My friend Sara Willoughby, @r535blog
in her book He’s Making Diamonds” says feeling far away from God is just like losing her mother in the grocery store. She was terrified, but her mother was only a few aisles away.
Depression distorts our view of reality. But remember: reality hasn’t changed. Satan tries to convince us God has left or never was there at all. When he does, our only hope is the gospel.
Scripture tells us, “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ Jesus.” (Ephesians 2:13)
God has never moved. Our feelings of nearness change, but remember: Satan is using this struggle to bring you away from the only true balm for your soul. Dearest, believe that God is near even when He seems far. For the only thing that can distance you from your loving Father is sin or disbelief. And praise Him, if you are His, the enemy may cause feelings of distance but he can never remove you from your Father’s embrace.
The miles are only in our heads. The truth is, we’ve never been closer. When our heart is breaking, when we feel numb, worthless and think we would be better off dead, God is ever near, holding us, loving us, crying with us, saying, “Child, I valued your nearness at the highest cost in the world-my only Son’s death and humiliation. Don’t believe your feelings, believe the cross, my dearest one. It has brought you near, and my grace will keep you near.” ~Bethany Rose
