Since I heard its the last day to submit for @amusicphotographymagazine
I figured I'd enter the rink with this one officially. The story leading up to this photo of Stevis during The Chariot's Farewell Tour being created and, more importantly, everything after is now one of my favorite stories. •••
It was a few days before the show and the shutter on my camera had died so I was frantically trying to find a body to use and I was going to be using a lens I had scarcely used before. ANYBOW, with the combo of a borrowed camera body and a nifty fifty, this photo came into existence.
At first, my technical side wasn't as huge a fan because the guitar neck was cut off, all you could see was his back, etc etc. But it slowly began to grow on me. •••
SO, when Alt Press requested submissions for the Photo Army of "anything badass" this was one of the ones included.
To my surprise, it was selected! And as a result, became my first piece of published work ever. Mutual friends told Stevis as well since he had NO idea and he was over the moon about it. •••
Now imagine how we both felt when, during the revamp for AP, this photo was hand selected to re-published in a full spread in the first new issue! Again, I got to be the one to break the news via IG to him and, damn, we were both excited. Him and his mom went to their Barnes and Noble to find their own copies of it. That was honestly the best feeling knowing how much this meant to him. •••
Recently, I got to catch up with him on The Fever's quick little tour jaunt. And we talked more about the photo. He told me how back in the day that was one of the biggest things for him because magazines were giving The Chariot press but they weren't publishing photos etc of them like this photo was published. Then he told me how they had visited the AP offices before and they had pulled out issue with the spread and asked if he'd seen it, saying it was one of their favorite photos that had been published. •••
I think it's amazing that this photo, a photo that almost never even happened, has such an amazing history to it. •••
