I'm not the biggest Queen fan, but I can't live in a world without their amazing songs (Princes Of The Universe may be my favorite song ever, next to Chop Suey from SOAD) and I don't know much about thei story, so I will judge this movie without comparing with the true story.
This movie is...
It did the homework.right, but that's it. I'm talking about being a bit empty in effort from screenwriters and directing, is a sequence of events, not so well written by the way (a bit too simple) that anyone could have read on Wikipedia or any other site. I'm glad that they showed the most dark side of Freddy Mercury but I wanted also to see the dark side and rise of every other Queen member, because they are a fucking group. Freddy Mercury was the main show, ok, but some more details and a bit less pretty concerts shots would have been much appreciated.
Can't say I was not pumped as hell for a good 60% of the movie, because the scenes where they compose, they interact and the concerts are very good but the rest of the time I was seeing a canonical biopic without really enough personality.
Must say Rami Malek was not good... It was fucking amazing, just incredible, he IS the best part of this movie and the most emotional parts are due to HIS PERFORMANCE and the Queen music. Oscar nomination NOW. Also the last 20 minutes where absolutely amazing (a part from terrible CGI), the best section of the movie without any doubt.
In the end it was a good movie, but not good enough for Queen and Freddy Mercury, one of the most incredible, eccentric and talented performer of all time. The show must go on, but this movie did not rock me so much.
