Side Splits or Hanumanasana 🐵🙏: Here are a few key poses & stretches to assist when cultivating the strength and flexibility needed to master this pose. TIPS: keep toes flexing up towards shin. Stay active in the thighs. Press heels in the ground. Always do both sides. Hold each frame for at least 5 Breaths. ........ALSO....... I will be posting an instructional video to follow these warms up activities. I demonstrate going deeper into the posture using block assists in order to explore the edge safely. ⏩⏩⏩⏩Please feel free to photo your journey! And please tag me to follow along!! DM with questions.

It’s Nutcracker season for my mini me & I’m a life long wannabe ballerina. I tried ballet when I was kid, but during my childhood, the 80’s was a time of, let’s just say interesting teaching techniques. My teacher called me a little fatty, I of course was crushed & quit ballet soon after. I don’t hold it against this teacher, she was a product of her environment, in her time & space. While it hurt at the moment, these things make you stronger & light a fire in your spirit that cannot be put out. Nearly 40 years later, I’m happy with my fluidity of movement, my strength, my control. All of those things that make me fall in love with the grace of movement with breath that is pilates. #firewithin #sidesplits #pilatesreformer #pilates #mindbodysoul #ballerinawannabe
When I was in Oakland, I spent a month working with Jim Donak of #divingbuddah
to intentionally work on squaring my side splits and deepening the flexibility in my back. I was super impressed with his approach and breadth of knowledge, and am stoked to experience the difference in my side splits, and have more stretches and exercises for my back. I'll be happy train with again when I am back in the bay in March!
Controle total👏👏👏👏👏 #pilates #reformer #sidesplits #reabilitacao #treinamento #movimentointeligente #clinicaz3
Did you know that the hip socket forms its limits at about age eight? In China if parents want their children in gymnastics after age eight they test if their sockets are formed wide enough for side splits. Let that sink in a second: You WILL face bone compression and damage your hip sockets if you force this movement and you are not built for it. When asked, I inform people that a) I sat very funny as a child due to double jointed knees and thus opened my hip joints early (I also faced a lot of instability in them early on) and b) I was in martial arts for six years as a teen and did the bottom-pictured stretch for minutes at a time each practice. If the above-pictured full side splits (with pubic bone against floor) is not coming to you, please do the stretch below—aligning hips with bent knees and then 90 (not more or less) degrees with ankles. Do not force (anything, especially) full side splits on closed hips and expect your poor knees to suffer the abuse. Respect your structure as it is. I have seen too many cases of hip replacement at young ages due to this. Courageously ask and seek the answers: Why am I doing this? What is it doing for ME? .

NO SPRINGS ALERT!! Side splits on the Reformer is such a valuable exercise to have clients start to work laterally, in the frontal plane. It’s a great place to look at standing posture and see all the ways that bodies can compensate when lateral movement is introduced - spinal rotation, flexion or extension. But the fear of standing on the Reformer is real and frequently translates into movement held hostage by tension. For those clients who can be on their knees, this can be a great modification. The ROM is greatly reduced (the moving lever is shortened) but it remains an exercise to get in touch with ab and adductors while maintaining a lift through the body. It’s also still a good place to talk about the pelvic floor. Use a light spring or, since you’re working with shortened levers, no springs at all! 🌟🌟🌟 Serious face because this wasn’t easy!! ✨#pilates #pilatesinstructor #pilatesbody #pilateslovers #pilatescommunity #pilatesreformer #abduction #adduction #lateralmovement #frontalplane #sidesplits #modifications #movewithjoy
straddle planche ! the skill i’ve not trained for along time but now accidently got it lol
Rainy morning workout today. Yes, San Diego gets weather every once in a while!
I upped my springload for skaters and narrow side splits to 1 Red 1 Blue primarily for the extra stability from the springs. I don’t need to challenge balance while standing on the carriage from here on out for sure lol. Small, controlled, isolating movement. Heavier springload = working abduction, lighter springload = adduction work. Loving quiet mornings on Betsy before work.

For a long time I neglected stretching and had very bad flexibility as a result! I was young and didn't feel the need to stretch before doing flips so I didn't!😅
Now that I'm older (still young) I've realised the importance of flexibility and how it directly relates to my skill progression!🤔
Your flexibility must keep up with your skill level! If not you run the risk of injury due to your muscles not being able to withstand what you're putting them through!😯
I'm actually the most flexible I've ever been currently and constantly improving!
Stretching is something you have to dedicate time to and keep consistent!💯
I believe there is no trick to getting flexible (unless you're born stretchy), it's just a matter of starting and staying consistent!
I'm hoping to have have my left leg and middle splits flat soon!😅
What are your stretching goals?🤔
Let’s twist again, like you did last summer! ☀️ Seriously though, it’s cold and icy out there ⛄️ #workoutwarmup
