After my post yesterday, a friend sent me a message which reads "bro, it's not that I don't want to pursue my career but my uncle said it is unreligious to be a filmmaker"
I replied with "Lol"
Then he said "I am serious, my uncle said it's against the teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammed"
Then I knew he was for real.
Let me tell you there will always be growth inhibitors when you want to start living your dreams in life. They'll always find something to bring you down; tales like it is not done in our lineage, God frowns at it and all. But the answer to this is knowledge.
Try as much as possible to be knowledgeable enough to defend whatever your dream is that you want to pursue.
In every sense of it, entertainment has been in existence even in the times of Prophet Muhammed (SAW). Remember when he migrated from Mekkah to Meddina; people came to welcome him all singing and beating drums (what do you call that?).
When Allah (SWT) created prophet Adam (AS), he tested all angels with giving names to some utensils like spoon, knife and all but no angel got it right except for Adam thereby making God order that they bow for him (what do you call this?) God could have just ordered them, but he brought art into it.
Presenting a new world to us didn't just start today, Angel Asrail (death) used to be Prophet Idris's best friend and he would take his life and returnit until he took the prophet to paradise and the former decided not to return to earth again (this in art could be referred to as trance or flashback as it were)
If I start mentioning, I'll get tired of typing.
When you have strong reasons to back your passion, they still won't believe you, it is then you start fighting for it.
At some point when I was just chasing my dream, I was sent parking by my siblings, some told me not to ever call their lines again and all sorts of threat just to forget being a filmmaker- but I got stronger and stronger each day. Though I'm not there yet but I'm not where I used to be - thanks to God almighty.
So, if it ain't worth dying for, it ain't a dream.
