this year, for different and varying reasons, I crave simplicity. I’m about the bones of the holiday. Gratitude. goodness. Sharing. Being merry. Kind. Celebrating our blessings. I guess it comes with age, but you realize the heart of the holiday is about enjoying each moment with your closest loved ones while you’re in it. Having some type of forward gratitude and understanding it might not always be like this. Enjoying the older people on your family while they’re still here, the little ones while they’re little + everyone in between as tomorrow is not promised. I never understood why my parents cried each New Year’s Eve, now at 29; I totally get it. Thankful for another year. Another year; together. It’s everything. Happy thanksgiving week y’all. .

I've already experienced things in the past that would have been my greatest fear before they happened.
But I'm still here. I lived through it all.
And I know I can and will live through many more great fears.
Fear is survivable.
Giving up because of fear is something you may not survive.
How can it possibly be 3 days until Thanksgiving!? I feel like 2018 has just flown by. I’ve really enjoyed adapting some of favorite recipes to include essential oils. Today’s recipe is all about the star of Thanksgiving...the turkey 🦃!! I know brining a turkey can be intimidating, but the flavor it brings to the turkey is so amazing. This recipe is adapted from one of my favorite chefs @thepioneerwoman
(that woman can COOK am I right!?!). One tip Ree says is to use fresh, not frozen, turkey for brining because most frozen turkeys are injected with a sodium solution prior to freezing. Since brines contain so much salt, doing this with a frozen turkey can make the bird way over salted 😝 This recipe calls for fresh ingredients and I highly suggest using them and their oily counterpart to bring really bold flavors!
1. 3 cups Apple Juice Or Apple Cider
2. 2 gallons Cold Water
3. 4 Tablespoons Fresh Rosemary Leaves and 4 drops of Rosemary essential oil
4. 5 cloves Garlic, Minced
5. 1-1/2 cup Kosher Salt
6. 2 cups Brown Sugar
7. 3 Tablespoons Peppercorns and 3 drops of Black Pepper essential oil
8. 5 whole Bay Leaves
9. Peel Of Three Large Oranges plus 5 drops of Orange or Tangerine essential oil .
1. Combine all ingredients in a large pot. Stir until salt and sugar dissolve. Bring to a boil, then turn off heat and cover.
2. Allow to cool completely, then pour into a large pot. Place uncooked turkey in brine solution, then refrigerate for 16 to 24 hours.
3. When ready to roast turkey, remove turkey from brine. Submerge turkey in a pot or sink of fresh, cold water. Allow to sit in clean water for 15 minutes to remove excess salt from the outside.
4. Discard brine. Remove turkey from clean water, pat dry, and cook according to your normal roasting method.
