And at last...while Slade is busy with Kyle--trying to get the ring off Kyle's hand, Oliver comes up behind him. When Slade was going through his list of how to deal with the league members, he made one, small mistake. After destroying Ollie's arrow-knocks, Slade pretty much considered Ollie to be of no threat to him. Since Ollie wasn't too adept of a fighter at the time, Slade knew that he could just out-match Ollie at any H2H. But as one can see, Slade was distracted at the time, and he underestimated Oliver. Ollie jammed one of his razor-head arrows into Slade's empty eye-cavity and into his brain. While this is what turned the tide of the battle, it would have been more effective if Oliver stabbed his one good eye. Blind, Slade would have been even more in a rage and have less control. If they had got his good eye, then when Light flared up--blinding the Justice League for him and Slade to get away--Slade wouldn't have gotten away. I won't go into detail about how dumb and contrived it is when Dr. Light's memories return from seeing Deathstroke fighting the league, or how he just leaves after being so enraged, or how Ollie brags about how the Justice League "teaches you how to fight" as they all haphazardly tug on Slade's limbs while using no powers. I will say one thing though. How did the artist look at Kyle's crossed eyes in one panel of this fight and say "that looks fine"? Also, how does Ollie "know" how much an arrow in the eye hurts? He's never shot anyone in the eye, and he's never been shot in the eye. And thus, in one panel Slade became a Green Arrow villain--losing his temper and shouting "I'll kill you for that!!" It would make sense for Slade to be angry about it then (after all, having your brain-matter trying to re-grow where sharpened, steel razor-blades are would REALLY hurt). But, it would be unprofessional and out-of-character for Slade to hold a personal grudge against someone....Guess what ends up happening? A lot of the writing in this sounds like Meltzer being overly pretentious to the point where it either doesn't make sense or sounds silly. What did you think of the fight? Let me know in the comments.
