SLAP HITTING. There are so many amazing things about the game of softball. But slap hitting is by far my favorite. Slappers have many many tools that they can use at any given time during their at bat. Between drag bunting, push bunting, chops, soft slaps, or hard slaps; there is always an option open for a slapper.
Hitting the ball where the defense is not is the key. To have the ability to position the ball all over the field makes a slap hitter unstoppable. With the average slap hitter reaching speeds of 19mph running to 1st base, it becomes very difficult for defenses to get a slapper out.
If a slapper runs to 1st base in 2.66 seconds, a fielder only has 1.54 seconds to make a play, throw the ball to 1st, and get the runner out. As a slap hitter, if we can move the defender out of position by half a second, we are most likely going to be safe.
It is a funnnnnnnn thing to be a slapper. Build speed, work positioning the ball on the field, and eventually gain power to hit to the outfield.
