I am thinking a lot about Japan these days! So I browsed through my pics. I quite forgot, but in January 2012, I went to Kasama, a small town in Ibaraki prefecture. There is a pretty Inari shrine there - I took a lot of pictures... but THIS is the Japan I miss. Unexceptional, not pretty, built at random, with signs, plastic baskets, vending machine - I feel at home. Funny enough: the left shops reads "fruit shop" but obviously, it's selling daruma instead 😀

This sweet girl is in her 70s and spends most of her days sleeping. A well deserved rest after a lifetime of abuse and forced labor.
Seriously, y’all. It was quite the challenge to not go around hugging all the elephants 🐘

Sharing a meal with friends, family, fellow humans is a ritual that many of us just don't make time for. Exchanging stories from the day, swapping jokes and just being together hark back towards our ancient roots and the joy of community and sharing what we have.
Make a resolution this year to make time for your flatmates, family and partner and cook up a nourishing feast together more often ✌🍎🍇🍉🍋 #welovefood #sharingiscaring

As important as it is choosing the right partner in life, is choosing with whom and for what you get involved with. It might come with ups and downs and all in between, but at the end is so worth it, and makes the journey way more fun.
For this time, we chose to explore Turkey with the @bright.tribe
, a bunch of local guys that made our experience way more authentic and unforgettable. We ate local food, went to local markets, we stayed in an amazing villa from a local owner, solar powered, we spent money in local, cultural and eco activities, such as cooking classes, trekking or a boat day. We went off-season, and off-the-beaten-path. And oh well, it was just GREAT. .
Check them if you want an amazing time in Turkey, and if it is not your moment, remember that you are choosing the way you want the world to be everytime you make a decision.

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance...

Plastic waste generated by two people traveling. 🌱 Week 1
When I started questioning my lifestyle and the impact it had on our planet I realized one of the biggest problems was plastic. I realized I needed to do something about it but the question was: what to do?
When we enter a supermarket we are overwhelmed by colors and lights and all the food packaged in PLASTIC. It seemed completely unavoidable. Until I found #zerowaste
and found out people that could fit their plastic trash in jars. Now that I started traveling again I decided to keep all the plastic trash I generate every month to be able to analize it and see where I can improve my plastic footprint. Here is the result of the first week. I'm sure I can improve it further until reaching the point of generating no waste but the beautiful part of all this is the process of awakening, seeing a reality, then wanting to change it until you finally do it.

As much as I love the sleek, red squirrels of Germany, something about seeing the little grey-brown fatties I grew up with always makes me smile. In honor of @jules_rules_berlin

Standing on the leading edge of existence
I think about that day I almost got washed away, through someone else's lenses. It is a second-hand story more than a lived experience. But I think that's okay. These murmured memories are much cozier than a flashback would have been.
Do you really know “Baobab”? .. It’s much more! .
📸 Baobab, Thiès, Senegal .
Albero millenario, straordinario e affascinante.
#letitslow

Kek Lok Si Temple is a #Buddhist

In 1930, the beautiful seven-storey main Pagoda (30 meters/98 ft high) was completed. This pagoda combines a Chinese octagonal base with a middle tier of Thai design, and a Burmese crown (spiral dome); a nod to all Buddhism.
Then in 2002, a 30.2 meters/99 ft bronze statue of Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy, was completed on a higher part of the hill that overlooks the sea.
Thankfully, there are now two sets of inclines/cable cars to carry visitors from the base to the middle and to the top and vice versa.
Since accidentally going head down first on a water slide🙈our kid Sixten has been really scared of water, especially getting his hair wet. But after plenty of time in pools and the sea during our travel, he is slowly turning into a real water lover🙌🏽
