Around a million plastic bottles are purchased per minute around the world, and a staggering 91% of plastic isn’t recycled. 😵 Which means it is all ending up in landfills or the environment (like the garbage patch larger than France in the Pacific Ocean). For No. 8 in the #paperpatternseries
, I created this piece all about single-use plastic in collaboration with zero waste chef @eatingwithmax.
We can each make an impact by swapping out single-use products for reusable alternatives when possible, or by just skipping them all together. Things like straws, beverage containers, produce & shopping bags, and baggies are pretty easy places to start. I always suggest selecting one thing to start with and expanding out from there. Doing too much too fast can get overwhelming when making a habit change.
While the best option is to use items you already own, I’ve also listed a few of my favorite resources below in case you need some inspiration or additional pieces.
Silicone baggies that you can also freeze and cook in: @stasherbag
Organic cotton produce/bulk bags: @ecobags_us
All sorts of reusable product resources: @packagefreeshop
And yes, the reusable options typically are more expensive upfront, however, they don’t need to be continually replaced like their waste generating counterparts. And as mentioned before, you definitely don’t need to go out and buy a bunch of new things. You likely already own plenty of reusable options. Happy swapping! 😊♻️
Comment below to add to the suggestion list, and I would also love to hear what single-use items you would be able to swap this week. 🌎
