This past Sunday marked the 4th consecutive year of doing the Yaqui Pride Rio Yaqui Christmas outreach to our traditional homelands in Sonora, Mexico. In that time, we’ve driven for 80 hours and traveled 4,000 miles, we’ve brought hundreds of toys and school materials and created unless smiles on kids faces. All thanks for the help of the supporters of the Yaqui Pride Project. We’re just the lucky ones that get to make the trip each year.
This year, I want to personally thank my family, Paula Luisa Valencia for permitting the trip to happen and holding down the fort while I was gone, my Rio Yaqui friends, who are also just like family now, Beronika Js, Juan Silverio Jaime Leon, Mariaotilia Salazar for always welcoming me into their home and each year participating in the distribution of materials, Armando Sanchez Madueño, for always introducing me to new foods and making time show me the ropes and the PYT, for allowing me to take some time off of work.
Lastly, the supporters that step up to the plate and make it happen each year. Individuals like, Chris Puzauskas , with Flight 33, Inc., Julie Ysaguirre, Robert Quihuis and family, Teresa C Molina, Mo Crandall, Mari N Jay, Vanessa Bustos, Evelyn Link, Miguel Alvarado, Adela Guillen Martinez, Maria Gonzales, Consuelo Allen, Penjamo Yaqui Pueblo, Ray Martinez, Kristy Lee Martinez, the Dempsey family and to all of those who send prayers.
Chiokoe Utte’esia (Gracias, Thank you)
