had a conversation recently via @playboy
magazine and in it Nas talked about the rap game and his observations, one being that ‘the moment you blink your eyes too long, your spot is taken’. I completely understand his sentiment and think there is truth in that, however I think that applies more to artists who make easily consumed microwave music. When you have artists that frequently pump out uninspired generic trap bangers they have to stay consistently releasing wash rinse and repeat music to appeal to their fan bases that have short attention spans which is a self inflicted cycle as their music quickly becomes stale due to the lack of depth to it. Where if you take an artist like Kendrick Lamar, he can not release solo music for a couple of years and he will still have fans waiting of the edge of their seats for any feature or new release no matter how long it takes. That is because his music has been so incredible and he has earned the people’s trust. I believe Travis & Nas are in the same lane, but I get the pressure they must feel.
