When you would have asked people in the ‘80’s about the town to go for escape, many would have pointed at Southampton. What’s currently a city hard to fantom — known for its big box retail and medieval battlements, glued together with drive-by traffic, used to be known as the city for glamour and glory with the beautiful Art Deco Ocean Terminal as its centrepiece. Many people in the UK came to Southampton to depart or arrive on cruise ships from all over the world.
Our friend (and cultural correspondent) @susannaedwards
started ‘The Writing Room’ to recover some of the glamour of the city. Together with 9 residents she writes a postcard to the city to capture the emotional first impressions and parting notes experienced by those who have migrated to or left the city. Because what is a better way to kick-off the summer by sending a postcard to the city?
