Rewatched The Hobbit this week and was taken back to the glorious time spent in New Zealand’s Arthur’s Pass in the South Islands, home to the only alpine parrot in the world: the KEA. It is mostly olive-green with bright red and orange tones under its wings. It was hunted for bounty by local sheep farmers who believed the parrot attacked their sheep, but became a protected species in 1986. The species still considered Endangered #hardbodybirdwatcher #keaparrot #arthurspass #southislandnewzealand #maori #endangeredspecies
