▶️With image data from telescopes large and small, this close-up features the dusty Elephant's Trunk Nebula. It winds through the emission nebula and young star cluster complex IC 1396, in the high and far off constellation of Cepheus. Also known as vdB 142, the cosmic elephant's trunk is over 20 light-years long. The colorful view highlights bright, swept-back ridges that outline the region's pockets of cool interstellar dust and gas. Such embedded, dark, tendril-shaped clouds contain the raw material for star formation and hide protostars within. Nearly 3,000 light-years distant, the relatively faint IC 1396 complex covers a large region on the sky, spanning over 5 degrees. This dramatic scene spans a 1 degree wide field, about the size of 2 Full Moons.🌖 . . . . . #science #scientists #space #universe #cosmos #astronomer #astronomy #astrophysics #spacetime #cosmology #spacescience #einstein #spacetravel #elonmusk #spacex #maths #physics #aviation #NASA #hubble #theoreticalphysics #quantumphysics #galaxies #physicsfun #spacecraft #rocketscience #spacetime #avgeek #earthfromspace
The #ParkerSolarProbe mission is to revolutionize our understanding of the Sun. It gets its name from Dr. Eugene Parker, an award-wining astrophysicist and pioneer in heliophysics. In honor of his achievements, and those of the record-breaking solar probe, the Crystal Lake Brewing Company, in cooperation with Eric Parker (Dr. Gene Parker's son), created the Parker Solar Pale Ale. Now with galaxy hops! Dr. Parker says he's honored to have a spacecraft - and now a pale ale - named after him, but insists that it's the work of the teams at NASA and JHUAPL that deserve praise. "I was honored to have the Parker Solar Probe named for me, but it truly belongs to a bunch of really smart scientists, engineers, administrators and support people that actually made it happen." The Parker Solar Probe is the first NASA mission named for a living person. #JHUAPL #space #galaxyhops #beer #NASA #ParkerSolarPale #SolarProbe #johnshopkins #sciencestories #scientists #engineers #spacescience
Virgin Galactic reaches Space for 1st Time in Historic Test Flight by flying SpaceShipTwo! Virgin's VSS Unity suborbital spaceliner reached a maximum altitude of 82.7 kilometers during a rocket-powered test flight over California's Mojave Desert on Dec. 13 after firing its hybrid rocket motor for 60 seconds. Flight began at 10 a.m. when VSS Unity took to the skies beneath its WhiteKnightTwo carrier plane, VMS Eve, from the Mojave Air and Space Port. Eve dropped Unity at an altitude of about 15,000 meters, at which point pilot Mark Stucky and co-pilot Frederick C.J. Sturckow fired up the spaceliner's onboard rocket motor. The engine burned for 60 seconds, accelerating Unity to a maximum velocity of Mach 2.9, or 2.9 times the speed of sound. Mission ended at 11:15 a.m. ,after the spaceliner touched down at Mojave on a runway. Once completed, VSS Unity will carry passengers on brief trips to suborbital space for remuneration and hire ($250,000 per ticket). These missions will allow customers to experience a few minutes of weightlessness and also see the curvature of Earth against the blackness of space. (Space ,2018) #Özyeğin #University #Aviation #Aeronautical #SpaceScience #VirginGalantic #SpaceShipTwo #Historic #Tourism Virgin Galactic şirketinin perşembe günü fırlatılan yolcu uzay aracı test uçuşunu başarıyla tamamladı. Kaliforniya hava sahasında gerçekleşen test uçuşunda VSS Unity suborbital spaceliner kullanıldı ve roket gücü kullanımında 82.7 km irtifaya çıktı. V.S.S. Up close and personal look at micrometeorite [NMM 443] ⭐️👀Swipe to see the whole stone. We don’t know how long ago it came drizzling down to earth from space, but we do know it’s a part of leftover material from the Big Bang, that after drifting in a dust cloud in a place where time is a mystery was found by Jon Larsen in Norway. This little piece of material is from the original batch of micrometeorites analysed (microprobe) prior to the publication about the urban micrometeorites (https://pubs.geoscienceworld.org/gsa/geology/article/45/2/119/195213/an-urban-collection-of-modern-day-large). NASA's InSight spacecraft, its heat shield and its parachute were imaged on Dec. 6 and 11 by the HiRISE camera onboard NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. In images released today, the three new features on the Martian landscape appear teal. That's not their actual color: Light reflected off their surfaces cause the color to be saturated. The ground around the lander is dark, blasted by its retrorockets during descent. Look carefully for a butterfly shape, and you can make out the lander's solar panels on either side.⠀ ⠀ Credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech/University of Arizona⠀ ⠀ #nasa #nasainsight #insight #spacecraft #heatshield #parachute #hirise #mro #mars #martian #caltech #uofa #planetaryexploration #planetaryscience #science #spacescience #solarsystem #spaceexploration #space

The Butterfly Nebula from Hubble 🦋🔭 . ▶️The bright clusters and nebulae of planet Earth's night sky are often named for flowers or insects. Though its wingspan covers over 3 light-years, NGC 6302 is no exception. With an estimated surface temperature of about 250,000 degrees C, the dying central star of this particular planetary nebula has become exceptionally hot, shining brightly in ultraviolet light but hidden from direct view by a dense torus of dust. This sharp close-up of the dying star's nebula was recorded by the Hubble Space Telescope and is presented here in reprocessed colors. Cutting across a bright cavity of ionized gas, the dust torus surrounding the central star is near the center of this view, almost edge-on to the line-of-sight. Molecular hydrogen has been detected in the hot star's dusty cosmic shroud. NGC 6302 lies about 4,000 light-years away in the arachnologically correct constellation of the Scorpion (Scorpius). ♥️✨🌈 . . . NASA's James Webb Space Telescope requires a primary mirror so large that it would not fit inside any existing rockets as one single, large mirror. On 12th December, 2018 on the occasion of Meteor Shower, Prakalpa organized a talk with Mr. Tanmay Vyas, the founder and director of Vedshala. He shared his knowledge about Astronomy and advised the students to follow their passions just like he did. He also asked many interesting questions to jump start the brains of the students and make them see the world in a different, scientific way. Thus it was invaluable advice and he was appreciated by the EC Department HOD, Prof. Usha Neelakanthan who also shared her thoughts and motivated the students. The session was attended by 30 - 35 enthusiastic students of 1st year mostly and also 7-8 faculties of EC Department. The efforts made by the Management and Marketing team of Prakalpa is really appreciable for being in the 1st year and doing such a great work. Fly a Rocket! Close up of the Bubble Nebula 🍃 . ▶️It's the bubble versus the cloud. NGC 7635, the Bubble Nebula, is being pushed out by the stellar wind of massive central star BD+602522. Next door, though, lives a giant molecular cloud, visible to the right. At this place in space, an irresistible force meets an immovable object in an interesting way. The cloud is able to contain the expansion of the bubble gas, but gets blasted by the hot radiation from the bubble's central star. The radiation heats up dense regions of the molecular cloud causing it to glow. The Bubble Nebula, featured here in scientifically mapped colors to bring up contrast, is about 10 light-years across and part of a much larger complex of stars and shells. The Bubble Nebula can be seen with a small telescope towards the constellation of the Queen of Aethiopia (Cassiopeia).♥️✨🎑 . . . I am so impressed with the Grade 6 Science Models and Presentations. #science #elementaryschoolteacher #spacescience #spacemodels
Hello Stargazers! I wanted to share with you a picture I took yesterday when I was at the Carnegie Institution for Science. The ceiling displayed phases of the moon that I completely adored 💕 ✨ ✨ ✨ #astrophysicist #physics #astronomy #stargazer #space #spacescience #ilovespace #scientist #iraqi #iraqigirl #iraqiwoman #iraqiscientist #futureprofessor #educationadvocate #STEM #spaceexploration #habitability #exoplanets #dc #lifeonotherplanets
💥 Every few hours observing the Moon, our ‘NELIOTA’ project discovers a brilliant flash of light across its surface – the result of an object hurtling through space and striking our unprotected rocky neighbour at vast speed. Based at the Kryoneri telescope of the National Observatory of Athens, this important project is now being extended to January 2021. • Go to our @instagram Story to learn more. • 📹 NELIOTA project
This is the spiral galaxy NGC 772. At a distance of 100 million light years we are seeing this galaxy as it was 100 million years ago. This is due to the finite speed of light, it’s a real life way to look straight into the past! Astrophysicists use the finite speed of light to build a picture of the early universe and to help understand how galaxies formed ————————————————————————photo credit: nasa ————————————————————————follow @astro_abbey for more posts like this ————————————————————————follow my personal account @abbeeystock ————————————————————————-#space #science #astronomy #engineering #cosmology #astrophysics #physics #spacescience #planets #exoplanets #theuniverse #universe #galaxy #spaceengineering #nasa #esa #uksa
